Hi. Im building a mame cabinet. I have only tested my new monitor (i think its a super VGA that you just plug nice and easy into the back of computer), im running windows XP. I have not tested it using any other windows operating system and i hope thats the problem.
The screen fires up fine and you can see the computer loading and the windows XP icon then the monitor just goes blank. Does anyone know why this is the case?
I got into bios upon startup just to check and make sure the monitor is not faulty and goes off after say 10 seconds and bios shows up fine and the screen doesnt turn itself off. so i think maybe win XP doesnt like the monitor.
Please help,
Ben

Hey Ben,
I have seen this on my desktop computer. I assume this is a fresh install of XP. Try this:
Right after you see the BIOS screen disappear press and hold the F8 key. You should see a menu. Select Enable VGA mode, then select your operating system. Problem should now go away.
I have seen this on a couple computers after a fresh install of XP. Hopefully this will help you.

Using Safe Mode (VGA Mode) is not really a fix, but should allow you to fix the issue. Chances are, the resolution or refresh rate are not compatible with the monitor. Go into VGA Mode as woody stated, then go manually change the video settings to ones that match the monitors abilities (try 640X480 60Hz, XP defaults to 800X600).
