Title: Best Playstation Emulator?
Post by: Xphile on February 07, 2003, 09:55:46 pm
Well, it finally happened- my kids' Playstation (original) finally packed it in for good this time.  I have several dozen (original) Playstation cd's, but no system to play them on..a PS2 is out of the question for the foreseeable future, due to every last cent going into this arcade machine.  So anyone know what the best PS1 emulator is now?  I know Bleem was one of them, (but that was a couple years back..), and I haven't really kept up with them..

Figured that since I've got the hardware dedicated to gaming in the box, might as well shoehorn some more stuff into it software-wise..don't really need any black coasters sitting around the house..:-)

thanks,
x

There is ePSXe, although I've never tried it:

Why don't you just buy a new PSOne on eBay? They go for around $30-$40 I think.

thanks for the reply..:-)

on ebay? well, 'coz 2 out of 3 used PS's ended up having laser alignment problems that "must've been during shipping"..(yeah, sure :) )

1 I manage to get working, 2 I did not..I'm giving up on used.
I wanna just emulate the cd's on the arcade box...eventually, every thing in their room will  be on the upright- tv, dvd,PS, and mame.. the cab's monitor is angled,
but not enough to make it a big problem,, Maybe they'll read more if a TV is a pain in the @ss to watch..:-)

You can get brand new PSOne's from normal stores for $50 nowadays.

ok,
'software' forum.
em-u-la-tor
c'mon people work with me here.. :)

I just wanted *opinions* on PS emulators, (I know about new and used hardware being cheap and all, I just don't need another console taking up space now that this one's gone.  need less stuff in the apartment otherwise the cab won't have a spot to be put.. "swmbo" , ya know;) )

thanks for trying anyways..

I tried em out a year or so ago and the one that worked best was the Virtual Game Station.  It ran pretty much everything I threw at it.

I have to suggest http://www.epsxe.com  I have used this emulator extensively.  I have also used Bleem! back a few years back.  epsxe allows you to install various plugins to get the best performance from your hardware.  Also has a lot of switches to get various disks to work.  I have played several games with it, and I regularly use it for Street fighter EX and Chrono Cross.
This page has a whole article on emulating PSone's.  Hope it helps:
