Looking at a ebay auction for a arcade game and I emailed the seller and asked if it was ok to pay in person when I pick the machine up, of course my motive is to verify the condition of the machine as it was described in the auction. He only lives about 10 miles from me. Here was his response.
" i have to protect my interests in this auction. please send the payment first- you could drop it in the mail if you live in hollywood. "
Does that make sense to you guys ? I can understand the guy wanting to get paid, but I would pick up like 2 days of auction end.

Try making it crystal clear to him where you are and if he's still hostile, tell him to get Effed.

Are you able to extend a auction by a day....I could have sworn it said 12 hours when I was looked last nite....now 1 day 12 hrs.

That already raises a red flag. I would proceed with caution. Lord knows I've been burned enough on Ebay.

he obviously wants you to pay for the machine first, so that you don't notice the wood is falling off, or maybe he doesn't trust you. if you clarify the situation that you do plan to pay for the machine if you win regardless of its condition, he should let you pay in person.

He is only showing a frontal shot of the machine so I can guage the exact condition of it. As good of a deal as it is, I may have to pass it up. FYI, I'll let you guys know what it is. Star Wars Upright with yoke for 200.00 atm....btw....it would only have 45 min left, but I know he had to extend it, because I was surprised at the price and time remaining when I looked last nite.

Time left: 1 day 3 hours
7-day listing, Ends Jan-08-06 11:55:37 PST
Start time: Jan-01-06 11:55:37 PST
Now if it started on jan 1st at 11:55 am.......wouldn't that make it end on today ?

na, ebay works on a 24-hour clock, so it doesn't matter what day the auction starts or ends on, as long as 7 24-hour periods pass. the auction will end the same day and time it started a week later.
-
ah, ok.....well he won't respond to any of my questions now, so guess he isn't legit....also noticed something was revised....it says pics were, but i guess something else was too...too good of a deal

Um, if you are only 10 minutes away, then arrange for a viewing BEFORE bidding. If he says no, then no one loses.

I might understand him not wanting to end an auction with the possibility of you being a deadbeat (not that you are) like others have said tell him you live very near and will come and pay for it in person, he won't even need to end the auction untill the deal is done.
If after hearing you live close and want to check it out but he still won't meet without payment tell him to take a hike.
