Title: The METAL STATION
Post by: Knievel on December 27, 2005, 09:50:15 pm
Long time no project posts. Still busy doing machines and CP's just nothing for myself..until now.

I've been renovating my basement in my off-time and I've just about got it completed. Anyway I decided to do the bar/arcade area in a Metal theme and here is the new center of attention..

Dude, please tell me no LPs were hurt in the making of this absolutely stunning piece of machinery.

Heh, no I'm very fond of my vinyl. The albums fit securely in slots routed into the surrounding frames.
I can easily slide them out for a listen or change them out for a new look.

Cool design with the album art on the side.  Definitely something unique and draws more attention to the machine.

Most excellent.  You are a true artist.

Can you give some info on what speakers you used and how you mounted them?  Also, what amp(s) are you using and what Jukebox program?
Title: Re: The METAL STATION
Post by: Knievel on December 27, 2005, 10:36:20 pm
Thanks, I did take a few build pics. I will probably put them up on my website when I get a chance to update it.

The albums on the sides are to match the bar, I will post a picture of it as well.

Mark the program is Touchtone, it's in my website's Links section. I tried all the software and Touchtone matched with a touchscreen monitor was the clear winner for me.

My sound system is basically a home stereo amplifier connected to a disassembled/remounted pair of Technics speakers. I steered clear of the whole car audio thing, partially because I had these components laying around.

Yet another beautiful creation ...

That isn't the touchscreen from that big thread, is it ? Screen looks too big.

Fabulous work ... again.

Cheers.

Thanks, no it's a 17" CRT I had with a touchscreen installed over it. Hope to get to that one soon though.

I should mention my wife was giving input when I added the albums to the display. ;)

Man that looks good, real good.  Can I make one suggestion.?

Switch the Motley Crue and Iron Maiden records.  Put Iron Maiden up top the the Crue down below.  The reason I say that is I wouldn't want to have someones err "Johnson"  eye level.  So everytime you turn your head your looking strait at "IT".

Slayer, Pantera, and Anthrax are more  90s. All the those bands are 80s.

Oh and I love you for using Iron Maiden albums!! Up the irons!!!

Is that a Wee Vee mounted behind the bar? That's a killer jukebox by the way, I'm extremely envious.

Post by: Knievel on December 28, 2005, 07:42:09 pm
Thanks guys, it's definitely one of the coolest things I've ever built.

That is an Epiphone VeeWee behind the bar. It's a fully functional mini-shredder that I plan on giving to my son someday.

You won't be seeing any Slayer, Pantera, etc I'm afraid. I'm strictly a mid-80's metal guy, I lean towards the hair-metal stuff like Motley Crue. That's why 2 Fast is up top, despite the crotch-view.

Zakk I've got a sizeable metal LP collection as well. I wanted to display some of it as I think they have the coolest album art ever. My solution for displaying them and still being to access them was the routed frames.
Anxiously awaiting the Mamey judgement, might have to get on a webpage for it sooner than I thought.

BTW what's with the Europe bashing? Those guys are still HUGE..in Europe.

Knievel, can I ask what color paint the walls are?  I dig the color and it looks like it'd be great for my basement.

i was just about to ask him that as i am in the process of getting my basement finished.....
Title: Re: The METAL STATION
Post by: Knievel on December 30, 2005, 03:08:58 pm
Nearly everyone who sees the basement asks me that question. It's a CIL paint called AMAZING - 04YR 11/537.
I had it made up at a local paint store called ICI Paints. I mention that because ICI offers a pre-tinted red base that will really shorten your painting time. Because the base is red you will only need 2-3 coats to cover a white wall. With regular paint it can take 8 coats or more to get a wall a deep red.

BTW the second picture above is probably the best representation of it..excellent color for a game room.

For those of us in the States, colorcharts.org lists the next closest color match to Benjamin Moore Carnival Red.

Um, holy crap man.

Now I'm going to have to ask for pictures of:
-your camero
-your wife's tasseled suede or denim jacket
-your leather pants
-and your mic stand with scarves tied to it.

***edit... allow me to justify.  I respect kneivel's work so much I designed my cab after his neon***

Again, my deepest respect for your work Knievl, you've got a pair of golden hands, as we say here in Holland ;)

Even though I have a different musical taste, that Juke looks very very good. I love the incorporation of vinyl in that way. I too love vinyl still. Play it quite regularly actualy and yes, there's nothing better than album sleeves to show off the artwork....

B.t.w. are you still "out of business" of making CPs ?
I recently bought a set of unused BYOAC hardware (an Ipac,Optipac,2 1/4" Suzo trackball, an Oscar 2 spinner (no NOT V2 !), plus a zillion buttons and other stuff in one very good deal, so I want to change my CP which is now way to small to get all this into it.
So I wondered if you are back "in business" again ?
Also, in all your threads, I never could find a picture of one of your CP's, fully mounted from the backside. Now let's get back on topic again :)

I do like the page you did up, although it would be nice if you included some links to some of the places you found some of the hardware, and maybe some closeups of the bits and pieces, but that is of course only wishful thinking!

Congrats bro, may this win bring you all the fame and acclaim due to you :)

Thanks for the compliments and FINALLY! the elusive Mamey...thanks Zakk.

I've got links there for the jukebox software I'm running and the Griffin Powermate. The stereo stuff I bought in the 80's so I doubt anyone will be tracking that down and the neon and plasma goodies were off eBay.

I have a total of 5 build pics thanks to my POS digi cam, they are now up on my site.

I will be doing another run of my CPT's in the not too distant future. My wife is expecting in a few days so that is my priority now.

Wow...That is one amazing basement...

That's what I hate/love about this site.  Every time I decide what I'm going to do, I open another thread and find something even more amazing.

Can't wait to see what you do next...

oh yeah, love the wee vee!

Thanks Jeff, Zakk this is #2 for us..4?? I can't even fathom that.
Very intersting job posting, I will submit my resume for your consideration when things slow down around here.

Our annual NY's party went on last night despite the possibility of a birth on the dance floor. Happy to say it did not, and the jukebox was a HUGE hit. I debuted a new electronic dartboard as well and it was the most popular game in the room...much to the displeasure of the arcade machines.

Just letting everyone know we a baby boy last night so I'll be somewhat offline for awhile.
I've had a bunch of people e-mailing me about plans, etc for this thing. I'll give you all some measurements and more details on how I connected it up when I get a chance. Thanks for all the compliments too.  :)

I think that's his XM tuner.  Dunno if it can control anything else, but I'd doubt it.

One of those nice Sony $200 jobbies would look sweet though ;)

Just as an aside, Anthrax was a mid-80s band that lasted into the 90s (and beyond, their most recent album with new work came out last year). Ditto on Slayer, though their last album was 2001.

That aside, awesome project-I'd also love some dimensions =)

Yea, sorry guys it's been nuts here.
I did some quick measurements that night but just haven't had time to do anything further.

If someone with the skills wants to tackle drawing it I'll make with the dimensions.
