Weird request, I know. I have a fully functioning Arkanoid (Taito) machine, I have a Tiger Heli Board I bought recently.
-
Find the Pinouts for each board on the net.
If you can that is ?
And compare them.
That is where i would start. :)

They look a little different. :(
-
A quick glance tells me that the title are wired totally differently.
You would be better off just wiring a second harness in the cabinet and plugging in whichever you wanted to play with the appropriate harness.
Yes you can do this, I used to have a cocktail I used as a test fixture and it had several common harnesses (JAMMA, Konami, Capcom, Universal, etc), and a unique (City Connection) and it worked just fine. Obviously you only plug up one board at a time.
-
You can get it to work.
-
Thanks all for the excellent suggestions...
BucketHead: Those Pinouts are great. Did you use MikesArcade.com to find the pinouts? Are there other sites out there that have this information.
Paige: Good suggestions. How many different type of edge connectors are there out there (i.e., Jamma, Arkanoid type, ?. ?). Is there a definitive list? Is it possible to buy just the wiring harness for Arkanoid and hack into it?
Fredster: I think the board in my machine is Green. I'll check at home tonight when I get home. Does Arkanoid use the same Adapter as Super Pacman? Not sure I would want to drill in, but I could make a new control panel, move the spiner off to the side and install a leaf joystick.
I'll take some pics tonight and post.
Thanks guys for all the advice....
-
No, you wouldn't use the SuperPac adapter. It's an example of an adapter that takes pins from one style and converts it to the other style.
Edge connectors can be found on Bob Robert's page. He has nearly all styles used in video games.
The concept is very simple. You have to take the wires from one game and re-route them to another game. In your case you'll have to add buttons. You just have to figure out how to proceed.
One thing you could do, and this may be a way out, is to simply gut the machine and make it Jamma. (Bob Roberts has a page for that along with about 500 more on the net).
Then you make an adapter for each game. Why do that? Because you would have a vertical Jamma machine. You could play more than what you have now, like for future expansion. You could take new games that are vertical off ebay and plug them in.
You just make the CP so it has 1 joystick and 3 buttons per player with a P1 & P2 start button. Then mount your spinner like you said.
Make the adapter common to Jamma and off you go.
It's just like building a Mame machine. You could even make a swappable control panel for it. Make one with the Tiger Heli out of wood, keep the Arkanoid, and make one for Jamma.
You can also get connectors at radio shack to do that.

I got the pinouts from here.

Thanks Guys...
Fredster: I like the idea of standardizing on a Jamma harness. Makes a lot of sense. Then I would just need to build bridges from the Jamma to the connector of the particular board (i.e., Jamma to Arkanoid connector, Jamma to Tiger Heli connector, etc.)..
A few questions...
1. Is this (http://homearcade.org/BBBB/type1.jpg) the Male part of a Jamma Connector I need ?(i.e., the one on the board). Is this the one I would need for this application (i.e., bridge harness Jamma->Arkanoid Connecor, etc...)?
2. Is this this (http://homearcade.org/BBBB/jamma_ecs.jpg) the JAMMA female connector? Listed at $6.00. I would replace my current connector with one of these...
3. I'm, assuming I could use the same Arkanoid PS in for all boards. As long as it could supply between 4.5 and 5.5v for the board. Would this mean having to adjust the Power output for each board I install?
4. I'm assuming that I could only install vertical RASTER games on this harness. Would a non-Raster type game work in this setup?
5. Anyone have a Jamma harness they would like to sell?
BucketHead: Thanks for that. Those pinouts made it a whole lot clearer.
-
Jabba
1 - yes, you can use that one. It has the key on it. It would go to your boards. You need one of those for about every board.
2 & 5 - I'd just buy the Jamma cable and rewire the thing from scratch. It's good practice. It doesn't take that long either. Buy one from Bob and just use that. Splurge on the deluxe cable, it has all the stuff on it. Plus you can take the cables from the Arkanoid and cut them off out of the PCB a few inches and solder the connections to the corresponding pins on the Jamma connector from #1. Then you have it made.
3 - Yes. Most games after 1983 all just use a switching power supply with +5V, -5V, and +12V. You can use it to power almost anything. And anything Jamma. Plus if it goes out, you can replace it in a few minutes.
4. Well, yah. The vector games are completely different. You can only do raster.
Vertical or Horizontal? If you have enough room in the cab, you can flip the monitor either way for your games. Remember, if one comes up upside down there is usually a dipswitch to "reverse" the monitor picture. Not all games do that :< but most.
Keep in mind that it's just a matter of wiring. You have all the components, you just need to be creative on how you wire the thing up. There isn't a lot of cut and dry things I can tell you about that. You just have to look at what you want to do and be creative on how you mount the pieces.
It's not a mystery. After you get that jamma harness wired in, the p/s online and the monitor hooked up you have just made a big SNES waiting for cartridges. It's your job to make sure the control panel/jamma adapter match the requirements for your gameplay.

Thanks Fredster....
Buy one from Bob and just use that. Splurge on the deluxe cable, it has all the stuff on it
He has a this one for sale for $20. Is this the one you mean?
http://homearcade.org/BBBB/jamharn.jpg
I also found some on e-bay, but I'm assuming thay Bob's are better quality...
Ebay Auction Link (http://cgi.ebay.com/A-56-P-Jamma-Harness-Cable-new_W0QQitemZ6233641241QQcategoryZ13718QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Is this one on ebay crap?
Thanks...

Bob's deluxe Jamma Cable has all of the connectors already attached. That's why I suggest it. It saves time and hassle.
The biggest difference in the cables is the gage of the wires and how many hookups you have on it.
Bob will have the monitor hookup as well as the connectors for the power supply in his deluxe cable. You can basically just remove your entire Arkanoid harnness.
Before you do that, mark the wires off the power supply so that when you use it again, you know which wire is what. Mark as many as you can or make a diagram and keep it with the harness.
