My PC has an MSI 845 Pro motherboard and I have been unable to get it to powerdown from the keyboard. Has anyone used a program like this to shutdown windows and powerdown the PC?
http://www.hot-keyboard.com/docs/shutdown_help.htm
My thinking is I can assign a key to a button on my cab to powerdown windows and PC. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. --James

Directions:
Point to the desktop (a blank area of your computer screen), right-click, select New, then Shortcut (this will create a new shortcut).
You should now see a pop-up window instructing you to enter a command line path.
Enter one of these as the path:
Use this path if your operating system is Windows 95, 98, or Me:
C:\windows\rundll.exe user.exe,exitwindows
Use this path if your operating system is Windows NT, 2000, or XP:
SHUTDOWN -s -t 01
Hint: Use your mouse to select the command line shown above, copy it, and then paste.
If the C: drive is not your local hard drive, then replace "C" with the letter of the boot hard drive.
Click the "Next" button.
Name the shortcut and click the "Finish" button.
Then Right click on the shortcut go to properties, select the shortcut TAB. Go to the field where it says Shortcut Key: and hit a key. (Best with F keys)(Other keys may make you select multiple keys)
Now whenever you want to shut down, just click on this shortcut or hit the responding key and your out.
This will shut down tthe system normally without a scandisk restart.

This what I'm doing in my cab, maybe it can work for you too. I am going to have one button to turn everything on and off ;D
The cab will have a momentary switch just like on the PC wired to the top of my cabinet. It will also have that Smart strip power strip (http://www.bitsltd.net/smartstrip.html) that will turn everything on when the PC is switched on and everything off when the PC is switched off. In the XP control panel under Power settings there is a place where you can specify what happens when the power switch on the PC is pushed. It will be set to shutdown so when the switch is pushed the PC will shut off and subsequently shut everything else off too.
