Title: Xbox Live 360 Arcade
Post by: ferrarimanf355 on November 15, 2005, 09:34:07 pm
If you're on the fence about the Xbox 360, here's an interview regarding the Live Arcade feature.
http://www.gamedaily.com/general/xbox360hub/article.asp?section=feature&article_id=810
And the Live Arcade versions of Gauntlet and Joust are going to have Live multiplayer!

Yeah. I read somewhere else that Robotron is going to have Live multiplayer. And Smash TV, too...

I also read that.  It even said Robotron would have co-op multiplayer as well.

One more thing... you guys can look at the Live 360 Arcade as an alternative to whatever David Foley's pushing. MS has all of the major arcade players lined up to support the Live 360 Arcade, so what you'll see at launch is only going to be the beginning...

That's really cool. It must have required a significant amount of reprogramming though. I hope they've left the essence of the game intact.

From what I hear, that's going to be the case. It will play, sound and look like you remember it from the arcade. You also have the option to turn on a graphics mode that upscales the graphics for HDTV's, or you can just turn it off and get the original arcade graphics.

Aw man...why'd you have to go and say that!! Now I have to save up to get one!  ;)

Seriously, this 'Live Arcade' is pushing me towards getting one, the added incentive of supporting that lineup of publishers (versus F-ley's iRoms) is just icing.

I'd support Microsoft over that guy, that's how evil he is!  hehe...

A little offtopic, but how'd you get your gamercard as an image like that?

I go to get my code and it just gives me this: http://gamercard.xbox.com/mrgprime.card

EDIT: nevermind, figured it out.

Joust / Gauntlet just rolled out tonight.

Unfortunately, it can't find anyone online to play with :(

EDIT:

Woah. There's this game called Geometry Wars. The speed.. colors... and the way it keeps you on your toes. It's very cool.

Here's the complete launch day Live Arcade list...
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/catalog.aspx?g=116000000&p=1&c=10&s=0&xlm=0&h=0&r=0
The Midway titles are indeed graphically-enhanced, but I did hear that you also have the option to use the original arcade version's graphics, if you're an arcade perfectionist.

Yeah but at the end of the day are you gonna prefer playing robotron and joust on an xbox360 or your cab?!
I could not care less about multiplayer - these are NOT multiplayer games. How easy is robotron gonna be multiplayer co-op.

MS can go to hell and take their 'console' with them - its an overprced xbox 1.5 - you gotta be mad wasting money on something with launch titles such as fifa 06, king kong and project gotham racing. Wait for the ps3 or revolution - they are not being released late, its MS who have rushed the next generaion (because xbox 1 lost them so much money)

Um, don't knock it until you've tried it? Nothing's proven about the PS3- it looks like the graphics of PS3 games are going to be on par with the 360, the controller looks uncomfortable, and Sony has a history of overpromising and underdelivering. And the Revolution- who cares about that thing outside of Nintendorks? It's going to be the next generation's Dreamcast- and I hope I don't mean that in a negative way and the Rev gets some innovative games, like what Shenmue did to the Dreamcast. I just don't see it being the runaway success some want it to be.

some of you guys are really pathetic arent you..

all of a sudden im a 'nintendork' and am facing such hostility! - gee do you have shares in microsoft or something to have such a devoted loyalty to a corporation!!

For the record, in my household alone I have a nes, snes n64, cube, ps1 , ps2, xbox, gba sp, psp and DS.. im not biased, my comments were based on MY experiences on the overrated and overpriceed 360.

Plus to suggest that nintendo do not have a significant track history in gaming is laughable - even if you hate the gamecube (probably because it doent make you look cool like ps2 does) you CANNOT DENY Nintendo's contribution to the industry if you consider yourself a real gamer. and to write off the gyroscope controller by saying 'if it aint broke then dont fix it' is again, dumb - by this rational we should be still watching Black and white CRT TVs and using audio casssette players as they 'wernt broke' then again nor was the original xbox broke, considering it was MS who killed it and RUSHED into the next generation.

Pathetic fanboys... such loyalty to corporations who could  not give a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- about you.. get some perspective, get a life..

I never made claim that Nintendo didn't have a significant track history in gaming.

You must go back and try reading again, if that is what you took away from my post.

My comments were directed SOLELY at the system launches, which this is for 360.

Several years of separation from those past launches has certainly clouded your mind just a bit, if you think that 360 launch is some how more pathetic than most others out there, including Nintendo.

What were you expecting? 100 AAA titles for the day of launch?

As for your collection of gaming machines...

Where do you think you are? Like a good number, if not most of us, don't have collections just like that.

I have an Atari 2600, NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, 3 GBA's, Neo Geo Pocket Color, 2 Dreamcasts, 2 Xboxes, PStwo, & a Gamecube.

I have had plenty of experience with console gaming, and I hold no special allegiance with a friggin console manufacturer. I love gaming, and I recognize tons of potential in the 360.

Sure Nintendo has given this industry some great stuff, and I think they will continue to (though I personally see the revolution controller as a novelty item), but so have Sony and MS.

Speaking of black and white tv's and cassette players...

MS gave us high definition console gaming, and made digital surround sound the norm.

You don't want to pay for online gaming over Live? Too bad for you, because that service is one of the greatest things to EVER happen to console gaming. Sure you can say that Dreamcast was online. Sure you can say that PS2 is online, but no...

They are NOTHING like Xbox Live. That universal community, where voice chat is the norm, and you have easy access to online friends, regardless of the game they are playing, means everything. The 360 has taken that to a whole new level, and hype about that is very much deserved.

I am no fanboy. I am a gamer. You sir are just jaded. Sucks for you.

Quoted for truth. You, sir, know the reason why Xbox Live is so great.
Anyways, IGN posted up a review for the Live Arcade version of Robotron. Basically, if you liked the original, the online multiplayer will hook you in again.  ;D

Is it like this: Mono (http://www.binaryzoo.com/games/mono/) ? (see also the this topic (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=45463.0) on the BYOAC board) heard it's "like" Geometry Wars - I don't (yet) have a 360 to find out myself :(

Do you have an Xbox (not 360)?

If you do, you can check out Geometry Wars in Project Gotham Racing 2.

If you go to the garage, and enter the free walk around mode, you can head over to the arcade machine there and play it.

EXCELLENT game.

I have an XBox, but no PGR2 - I also have a PS2 with Gran Turismo 4 so I figured I wouldn't need another "serious" racer...
I do have Outrun 2 for XBox and Burnout 3+4 - both which aren't on the backwards compatibility list... (which brings us to another topic- does the backwards compatibility work?)

You can buy PGR2 for about $10 used now. It would be worth that price for Geometry Wars alone. :)

As for backward compatibility...

No 360 for me yet. :(

I have heard that it works better for some games than others though.

Who here thinks that an Xbox 360-based arcade cabinet would be incredibly cool? I can think of several advantages over a traditional MAME cab:
You never have to worry about whether or not a game will run.
MS sells a VGA cable for the Xbox 360: I think you can use that to connect to an arcade monitor that supports VGA.
You never have any of that guilt associated with obtaining ROMS for free off the Internet.
You can use the 360's universal media remote to turn it on and off.
It has a built-in jukebox!

USB Ports are included, for your connecting needs.
You can use the wireless controllers if you want to play four-player games on a two-player cab.
You can use the wireless network adapter to keep a clean look with no Ethernet cables.
All that's needed is for MS to give permission to Groovy Game Gear, Ultimarc, SlikStik and/or Xarcade to make 360 peripherals, and for more XBLA games to start popping up, and it would revolutionize the BYOAC hobby, IMHO.  8)

You can do the same thing with the current gen Xbox (which I, and several others, have done), so I don't think it will revolutionize anything. :P

That being said...

I do plan on getting a 360 in a cab as well. Though I will no doubt be waiting until that price falls a bit.

The revolutionary part is the content download through XBLA. True, the Xbox also has this, but it was a test run for the features you see in the 360 version. Besides, the 360 has a first party VGA cable. It's gotta count for something.

Don't get me wrong. I definitely see its potential arcade cab goodness. I just don't see anything revolutionary.

I see it as evolutionary, but that is still a good thing. :)

True. You do have a point there.
I'd love to see someone blaze the trail and make an Xbox 360-based arcade cabinet, just to see the end result.
