Title: Adjusting picture position on a TV and PC with S-video...
Post by: Sinner on November 14, 2005, 01:42:16 pm
I just connected a 27" JVC TV to my cab PC, there is also a 21" computer monitor hooked up...I'm running an ATI Radeon 7200 video card...the resolution set to 640x480...
I'm happy with the picture, though the RED seems to smear (for a lack of a better description)...it's just not very sharp...other colours are good though...

Anyway, the picture on the TV seems to be a little high on the screen (some games has the top clipped off)...for example when I run Galaga, about an eighth of an inch or so is cut off the top and there is about an inch of black at the bottom...
I would also like to adjust the size of the overall image from left to right and top to bottom (PC monitors have this picture adjustment built in)...

Is there any software I could use to bring this image down a little and/or adjust the size on the screen?
Thanks.

Well I looked around the web a little last night...apparently ATI has some software that came with older cards (All in Wonder _ Rage Pro) that could do adjustments of the screen through the S-video plug, but that's all I could find out...
I'm still hoping someone can point me in the direction of some software, or make a suggestion as to which video card I should buy...

If this is a true ATI card the latest Catalyst drivers support screen adjustment for the S-Video out.

I believe you'll find it under Advanced View settings from what I remember.

I have an older All-in-Wonder card I use for my upright cab and those adjustments are there.

The newer cards and drivers have the same setup options from what I have seen including the 7200 card.

I have a similiar issue. ATI rage pro, using Win xp pro,21" tv., mame command line and some games are cut off on the top bottom and sides. some games are fine. Would running mame resolution tool cure this? I am using GameEx.  I have installed new version of ATI driver and it looks great but some games seem like they have a virtual size entered, if i bump the mouse left or right the screen does scroll. but i cannot get it to go full sceen on MK3 for example.

Anybody have suggestions to try?

I installed an ATI Radeon 7500 and the newest drivers...
I can adjust windows correctly, but when I use MAME certain games have the top cut off...
I haven't had a chance to play with it, to see if I can adjust the games individually to fit...

There is a good inch and a half to two inches of blank space at the bottom of the TV tube, so I'm wondering if there's an adjustment on the TV where I can bring the picture down...

Windows is fine, so I think it may be an issue with the way MAME is set up...

Ive literally just hooked my Radeon 9700 to the TV with S-Video.

In the latest catalyst control centre you should see a setting for overscan/underscan. I set mine to underscan and it seems to map itself exactly to the TV screen. Overscan puts the edges just outside of the viewable border.

I think epic69 is having the same problem as I am...when in the front end, or in Windows (for me) the screen is fine, it's when you load a game that we have a problem...

Does anyone know what the zoom button does in the diplay settings of MAME?  I was having a problem with the screen being off to the left, and the zoom was set to 2...when I set it to 8, the screen was centered...

Exactly what i am experiencing. in XP and gameex it looks and works great. if i launch a game (in this case MK3) then it looks like the screen is Zoomed in and all 4 edges are cut off. cannot figure it out. tried some vertical games like mspacman and its fine.
