Has this been posted yet?

The above is very roughly translated from German but it's obvious what must be done, download the 2 files and add the line illustrated to the autoexec.bat
Does anyone agree it is cool news?

I didn't realize AC'97 was a problem in DOS. Any machine I've used with AC'97 sound onboard has worked fine in DOS with no need for a specific driver file as far as I can remember. But then, I've been using AdvMame in my DOS cabs which has a built in AC97 driver. Hmmm...

I didn't realise that AdvMAME had a built in sound driver, I will have to use that ASAP.
...still, we'll pretend that I was the first to discover something potentially usefull... like Vantage and Raine might not have AC'97 drivers built in.
Thank you,
Craig

That's excellent news. I've been after an AC97 DOS driver for a long time.
It appears you also have to change some BIOS settings. If you put the text through Babelfish you get the following:
VIA AC97-Chip With the AC97-Chip VIA an unparalleled Schlamperei afforded. On some driver CDs the important driver file was directly forgotten viafmtsr.com! For the sake of the completeness it gives here also viaudio.com to the Download. With these drivers the chip in the MSDOS mode makes however no problems. In auto+EXEC-ASKED the following instructions must be added and adapted if necessary:
LOADHIGH C:\DOS\VIA\VIAUDIO.COM
LOADHIGH C:\DOS\VIA\VIAFMTSR.COM
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 P330
In addition the option must be activated "Onboard Legacy audio DEVICE" in the BIOS Setup of the computer. The values for storage address, IRQ and DMA (direct memory access), registered in the BIOS, must agree naturally with those in auto+EXEC-ASKED.

Here's a link to the thread where I told you where to get this driver (only from the manufacturer, rather than from some German site):

And here's the thread where I mentioned it under my old alias back in 2004:

I've had this driver for about a year and I didn't have to get it from a German site?

Hey! I never noticed that...
Now I wish this board was one that allowed users to delete their own threads...
Well, atleast it was new to Grasshopper

Well, atleast it was new to Grasshopper
New to me too . . . (Although I don't run DOS, but I had heard lots of people ask about this and didn't know there was a solution).

...AdvMame in my DOS cabs which has a built in AC97 driver...
Does AdvanceMAME work with TV-out?
Thank you,
Craig

New to me too . . .
And me. This will come in handy.
Now to find a modern motherboard with built in video that outputs @ 15KHz. Anyone done any testing?
-
Someone should make a MOBO w/VIDEO that puts out 15khz. How about it Andy a ALL IN ONE and SOUNDCARD that works in DOS, WINx, LINUX selectablevia BIOS ;D

Dude, you responded to the 2004 thread about the same thing.

Actually, I thought that post was directed at me instead of Peale. (Wouldn't have surprised me, unfortunately :P)
So many arcade games, so few remaining brain cells . . .

*shrug* what do you want from me. I'm senile. At my age the first thing to go is the memory.
-
No, no, no!!! Memory is the SECOND thing to go - the first thing was, ummmm, give me a minute, uh, nevermind, I can't remember!!!

I think a good (potentially accurate) excuse is as follows:
We are grownups with family. Our women hit us in the head with frying pans and our children hit us in the head with toys.
As a result we can't remeber things!
