Title: How to spatter paint ala Pac-Man ******
Post by: koolmoecraig on November 06, 2005, 03:15:13 pm
Original Pac-Man and Rally-X machines have paint spattered over the base color. On a Pac-Man the spatter is blue on top of the yellow and on Rally-X it is black spatter on the tan base.

My question is how do I replicate this? All of the original spatter marks are just little dots which means they were dropped vetically. Flicking a brush full of paint at it wont work because it will cause the dots to "blur". I'm going for authentic but I don't wanna sit here and do one drop at a time.

Anyone have any ideas?

I heard a toothbrush works.  I have a Pac-man restoration but haven't done my speckling yet.  I'll practice the effect on some disposable surfaces first.

I used one of these wire-brushy things in middle-school ceramics quite a while back. Seemed to work for smaller scale stuff, and was easier to keep consistant compared to a toothbrush.

This is called 'stippling'.   I used a nylon bristled scrub brush.. dip the ends in paint and then pull them back with your fingers and flip ...  takes some practice though.
