Title: Disappointed w/ Namco 5-in-1
Post by: Dougmeister on November 05, 2005, 07:37:10 am
Being a long-time MAME fan, I was expecting true ROM dumps.  I got the PacMan/Galaxian/Dig Dug/Bosconian/Rally-X, and the sounds, graphics, game play are all dif't than the arcade.

So, if you're expecting a 100% true conversion, don't.  It's pretty good, but not as good as I expected.

I haven't heard any negs yet, so is everyone else happy with them?  For $10, maybe I should be too  ???

yes the games are off a bit. But as you say for $10.00 not bad
also I do think the games are closer to any other console in joystick fell.

10$! I paid about double that and still thought it was cheap.

The graphics are pretty decent IMHO but I agree the sound is disappointing. I understand the McPacman unit is better in that respect.

I think the games are close enough to the arcade versions and the joystick plays Pacman surprisingly well. One thing that does irritate me is that the joystick is 4-way but Bosconian is an 8-way game. Doh!

I have the Ms. Pacman unit and it's pretty close to the original. The sound is much better.

But it has the opposite problem: It has an 8 way stick in a selection of games where only Xevious is an 8 way game.

$10  that isn't to bad that's like $2 a game even if it isn't the exact original it's still a good deal

Where? I've been thinking about getting one for a bartop or just for screwing with but wouldn't pay more than $10. The Christmas season appears to be on us... my wife saw Santa at the mall last week. He gets more impatient every year.  :)

Me and a few friends are going to have a "Black Friday Party" where we all go to Best Buy at 3am and wait until it opens.

Perfection, my good man.  Perfection.  Nothing less :-)

Sounds like I may check into the wireless if it has a switchable 4-way/8-way, esp. if it is w/ the Ms. Pacman w/ the better sound.

I've been a Mame freak for many, many years, and once you've become addicted to the "real thing", it's almost impossible to go back.  At least for me.

Oh, and they are (were?) buy 1 for $10 at Toys 'R Us get a 2nd one free just a few weeks ago.
