Title: My Vision Pro II has no vertical hold? *SOLVED*
Post by: RayB on October 23, 2005, 01:14:30 pm
Reached another milestone yesterday. Took my Vision Pro II which had been sitting new in box since May 2004, and finally fired it up for the first time (AVGA -> JPAC).

I've seen MAME games running flawlessly on a PC monitor with all the effects that simulate the look of an arcade monitor, but man, what a feeling when you see it on a real arcade monitor! WOW. It's like crossing the looking glass from PC world to arcade world.

Anyways, I'm using ArcadeVGA, DOS MAME 0.78, and I think I'm letting MAME choose its own best resolutions.

My monitor is horizontal. When I run the PacMan family of games (and similar vertical games) my picture rolls. The problem is, this monitor has no visible Vertical Hold controls!! The remote has size and position, contrast and brightness. The neckboard only had RGB drive and cutoff controls.

Anyone know where the Vertical Hold is??

On a side-note, I'm a bit confused as to how mame chooses resolutions. Sometimes it picks some where the picture is a tiny square in the middle of the monitor, while for other games it will pick something where it's stretched so the top and bottoms are not visible. It seems to make no difference if I set the stretch to on or off. Guess I gotta read that easycab tutorial again...

I can tell you where it isn't. No monitor has any type of vertical or horizontal controls on the neckboard.

Is there a vertical hold (a.k.a. vertical frequency) on the main monitor board?

I'll have to check again. There are no standard type potentiometers, but there are some of those little white box style ones (you need a screwdriver to turn)

Turns out it is one of those little surface mount pots. Very sensitive too.
