is it possible to get mame to run snes games? ???
-
Kind of. Mame supports the NSS (Nintendo Super System) games, which actually just got a big boost in emulation recently. Only a few games are supported for this platform, however.
Mess, on the other hand (Mame's Janus twin) DOES support SNES games. And with the sound emulation worked on, is quite a good emulator now.

is there nothing you can add to mame to play snes games like there is for neogeo?
-
No. Mame is the "Multiple ARCADE Machine Emulator". MESS (http://www.mess.org/) is the Multiple Emulator Super System. And there are other SNES emulators out there (like zSNES).
