After some great help from JMDickson and Andy Warne, I finally have games displaying pretty well on my MAME cab with a 8MB Trident 3D Blade driving a WG 19K7602 arcade monitor.
I can't find the site name now, but I followed directions that basically said "use the monitor controls to get 320x240 looking good and then correct the other resolutions with advv." While the arcade games I've played in AdvanceMAME look great, I can't get a decent picture in arcadeOS at 640x480. Everything fits on the screen, but the text is illegible and blurry.
Based on the PurpleMame page (http://mame.how.to) I've copied ntsc.rc to vbe.rc, added the device_video vbeline vgaline option and tried to get the 640x480_ntsc_standard mode to clear up in vbev, but I really don't know where to begin without affecting the other resolutions.

According to someone at Wells-Gardner, the specs are:
Horizontal sync is 15.7khz
Vertical sync is 60hz
Resolution is 400 X 240
Two things concern me. 1) I still don't know an appropriate value for PCLOCK. 2) (This is going to sound stupid) Is 400x240 the maximum resolution that I'm going to be able to get?
I don't understand why I can get a stable 640x480 in vbev and advv, but when ArcadeOS tries it, the screen jumps everywhere.
I've also tried AdvanceMenu, hoping that since the games were displaying, the menu would display as well. No luck. I either get dumped out to DOS with an error, a split screens, or total garbage
depending on whether vbe is loaded, and the device_video option.

I just wanted to put this one back up.
Can anyone explain why I can see a picture @640x480 in advv, but I can't run ArcadeOS at that resolution?
Alternatively, can anyone help explain how AdvanceMame picks the resolution to display at? When I tried changing the size from 1024 to 320, the picture looked like it changed slightly, but it was still unstable.

shookow,
i have a similar problem, in that 640x480 does display in advv, however it is flickering very strongly (i.e. to the point where it is unusable).
using wg 25" monitor with trident blade t64.
anyone?
