well, i'm sorry if i misled anyone with my title, i'm not making one from scratch, just assorted parts and an old used gun.
i've always been partial to the Sega gun seen on the first two house of the dead games, the virtual cop games, and lost world, so i decided to make my own gun.
-
well, after doing alot of work, and paying a bundle for this gun already, i'm beginning to think of getting a brand new case to work on, so i won't have to use any filler. and a brand new cord too, since mine didn't come with anything usable in that department. i could get a new gun (comes with everything) from sega distributers for 300 and some bucks, or by a gun case for 60 and a cord from happs for 90...
i'm still weighing my options, but i think this project is just going to cost a bundle. i'll still use the old gun to test painting options and looks, but it doesn't look like my new aquisition will ever see any more action.
still, does anyone know of a good paint to use for plastics? i know i'm probably going to need to sand lightly and apply primer before i think about color, but what should i use? well...i think i might have to put this on the back burner till i can get things figured out.

Bondo is pretty easy to work with. The best paint to use on plastics is vinyl dye. It costs about two to three times as much as a can of GOOD spraypaint but it only takes two coats and it won't come off like spraypaint will.

i've been thinking of a way to replace the hose that i didn't get as part of my gun. i have both the ends that attach to the cabinet and the gun, but not the central hose. through various sources, and from inspetion of the ends i have, it seems to be just a hydraulic hose with screw-type fittings on the end. i'm trying to figure out what kind of fitting exactly, and looking at various hoses that i can find online, but i'll try to keep you all updated, since it might be a cheap solution to have an authentic gun cord that stands up to the torture that our machines and arcade parts must endure. i'm starting to appreciate the way that the arcade industry "recycles" parts, such as the grommet from inside old joysticks. maybe i'll include pictures of the parts and as much information as possible so that someone on the board can try to help.
if you are in some sort of buisness that bestows upon you some sort of knowledge of hyydraulic hoses and fittings, then please pm me.

You can always use one of those shower hoses. You know, for the detatchable massage heads? They come pretty long, and in a cool metal-chrome stuff.
I know the folks in the PC-Modding community use them to hide ugly power-supply wires.

ha, i've got that same acrylic case, although unmodded and now sitting in a box in my attic...
sorry for the bump, i haven't gotten anything more done, although the idea of shower hose stuff is nice, there does seem to be three screws that are used in the ends to tighten down on the cord to hold it in. the big problem is getting it in just the right size, and then finding new screws (new screws won't be hard...).
