Started up my project this weekend got a couple things done
My cab is going to be a red and black themed showcase cabinet. For the artwork
I was considering having it be a Berserk (anime) theme or maybe a red samurai theme. Not sure which as of now but I'm sure I will decide as the project gets closer to completition.

here are some pics of the progress
day 1:
worked on my monitor base for the showcase cabinet
cut out my frame pieces from some studs (picking out straight ones was a pain in the butt).

glued and screwed the frame together, was excited this was the first wood working project i have done, and the thing came out level on every side, strong too.

I have a spare 61" Mitsubishi low def rear projection collecting dust. I offered it to a family member, but he won't come get it.
I'm thinking of just making one of these to go with the TV.
I like the base. I was worried about how it would be stable with 4 players going to town.
I HAVE to do something soon.
First, re-do the jukebox, then move on to this.
Keep us posted.

Weather here in Philadelphia area sucks, snow, cold weather, i get home from work around 6 so no light is out i have been trying to get some work done on the cab but just no time lately. Anyways what with the Eagles stinking it up lately i figured I would get some more of the control panel finished. Cut out the plexi for the top. The height of the cab seems to high to me right now its 5" + 3/4" + 3/4"

Looks good.. just wonder what your going to be using for coins?
Are you planning on putting in a 4 slot coin door or putting 4 coin buttons on the CP?
-
4 player coin door, gonna have the player start buttons do both (start + credit)
-
How wide is your control panel?
-
49" wide 18" long
perfect room for everyone
-
Hope you have a big ass room to put that in. Don't forget that you'll also need about an extra two-three foot clearance all around that CP for people and seats.
-
room is not an issue i have a 53' x 23' open basement, finishing it now so all should be good. Any ideas how to cover the control panel I wanna make the overlay solid red? does kinkos print out solid red 49" x 18" in gloss paper or anything?
-
A better solution would be to get some generic red overlay material. It'll be cheap, durable and arcade authentic.
-
well, i am sort of having trouble finding a size 18" x 49"
and i dont want to sheets put together i want one continuouse sheet
-
I am sure that you can get a sheet of red laminate. I believe they are usually sold in 4x8 sheets.
-
my artwork that covered by 52" cp :-) for my showcase was actually self-adhesive vinyl. looks like one big sticker. i just peeled it off, and slapped it down. no lexan or plexi needed. no scuffs or anything. great stuff.

Around here I just go to the local arcade supplier to get mine. It's about 36" wide in a continuous roll. It's the standard of the arcade world. I don't know where you get it in the States but I've seen tons of guys link to it. Just do a search. It's easy to find and it's been referenced tons of times around here.
Edit: I was thinking of www.partsexpress.com
It looks like they only have black and various wood grains. Happs might have something, they call it pica vinyl.

Oh man, that is exactly how long and deep mine is going to be. Great minds and all that.
