Title: Big screen service
Post by: Clonedsheep on September 28, 2005, 02:52:38 pm
While reading another thread I remembered something. I remember reading in my owners manual that I am supposed to have my big screen serviced like once a year. Forgive me but I am @ work and trying to use total recall so my details may be a bit off. Anyone ever done this? How much is a good price for this service. Can I DIY? Thanks in advance:)

I wouldn't bother until you notice a problem. I have a 50" Pioneer that is 11 years old, and since the kids came on the scene (8 years ago) the thing is on almost all day - even when no one is watching..

The only thing you might want to do every couple of years (more if the area is dusty) is to pop the back cover off and wipe the three guns clean with a camera cleaning cloth to remove the dust, and clean the mirror if dust has accumulated there.

What he said.

Also, do you keep the convergence adjusted?  Are the white lines on graphics, fields, etc, pure white, or are they rainbow colored?

My sony adjusts convergence automatically.  You push a button and it goes all funky displaying patterns and when it's finished it's a-ok.

If you do clean the mirror make sure you don't press too hard... it's only 1/8 mirror and very fragile.
