They finally found a live one, very cool!
I'll bet that sucker would eat a zombie. ;)

With Bacon!

It wouldn't eat a zombie... zombies would float, this thing is half a mile underwater.
-
Nothing draws a giant squid to the surface faster than the tantalizing aroma of rotten zombie meat.

Somehow that sounds like it applies to my workplace.
-
There are a lot of squids & zombies at my place of employment as well.

I want to see video of this thing moving.
Or maybe not, since it'd probably give me freakin' nightmares.

Without some context of scale, it would probably look about 2 feet across, unfortunately.
-
I'm suddenly in the mood for calamari.

Now that one has been filmed alive, I expect a National Geographic or Discovery Channel show is probably already being put together. I'd love to see one in motion too.

They have a video on that link, but it only includes a sequence of still photos. It looks like they didn't shoot 30fps footage, since maybe it was only a motion sensitive camera that snapped photos every few seconds.
The team is supposed to go back in mid-October to get more film, hopefully then they can capture it better.
Chad's right though. The researchers determined that this thing moves as fast as a regular squid, so without scale, it'd probably won't be as dramatic.
I know they've been trying to capture them on film for a while, even going so far as to attached cameras onto the head of Sperm Whales, since they often find the whale carcasses have huge sucker marks. Freaky stuff.

I worked for the National Marine Fisheries Service as an observer on a fishing vessel in the Bering Sea a few years ago. Aside from a couple of odd sharks, the best non-target catch they brought up in the nets was a 10-foot squid.
Not sure whether or not it was an Architeuthis, but it was pretty friggin long. I have a picture of it draped over my shoulders. It wasn't very big or heavy, but the tentacles were quite long.
I, too, have been waiting to see an Architeuthis in the wild. Remember that show a few years back when they stuck a camera onto a sperm whale to record its dive? They were hoping to catch it feeding on mega squid. Was that a Geraldo special? Sure turned out like one. ;D

I have a feeling there'll be a reality show based around this squid. Very soon. :-X

Maybe they can have it with Paris Hilton and the squid, she'll do anything for attention.

Which one would plant a sucker on more things?

Squid: Eats Paris' leg.
Paris: Thats Hot! ::)
-
Isn't it about time for a new "accidental" Hilton sex tape, phone hack, nipslip, or some other heavily calculated marketing move?
-
It's been pretty quiet since the burger commercial.

Cool squid.... I read a book a few years ago called "Deep Ocean Journeys" or something like that. It was about a little sub that explored some of the deepest parts of the ocean. Man, there is some bizare stuff down there, it is like being on another planet.
But more importantly, I still think Paris is damn hot. Out of two I would definitely give her one.
