Title: Monitor with ATI Card under Windows
Post by: krok_le_bo on January 12, 2003, 11:49:47 am
Hello all,

I've been reading this forum in all ways to find a help.
First, excuse me for my poor english, I'm a Franch guy.

I've started a MAME Cabinet, finding one in a pub, and everything is good except one thing : the display (what a surprise ! )

My config :
PC : P III 600 Mhz / 128 Mo RAM
Graphic Card : ATI Rage Fury 128

Monitor : Hantarex MTC9000

The plug schema in input of the monitor is the following :
- Red
- Green
- Blue
- H Sync
- V Sync
- Ground

I've plugged it directly to the VGA connector, and I've tested it under ArcadeOS. It works. Great, this means the frequencies are 15.750 / 60 (NTSC). I needed to be sure. I am now.

But I've choosen to use a gamepad USB to hack the controls, so I need to be under Windows.

Under Windows, I've tried several softs, such as AdvanceCAB, PowerStrip 3.17, VGATV drivers (find them at http://pwp.netcabo.pt/pscoelho/ ). Nothing rules...

There are several posts here that let me hope I could find a solution, but it didn't work. The best solution for the moment seems to be PowerStrip, but it doesn't keep my parameters when I pull down H frequency. It gives me an error message telling me the frequencies are errournous, and the frequency of the Card is in red...

Hope you can help me. Thank you in advance.  :'(

If powerstrip doesn't work, you're pretty much out of luck until Andy's new video card comes out, or you buy a scan converter.

Pre ATI Radeon, cards dont support custom resulutions.

which can limit the use of powerstrip.

if you want to run windows get a direrent gfx card.

Thank you for the answers

I'm quite wondering... If ArcadeOS can display MAME on my monitor (15kHz), this means that my card support these frequencies.
So if in hardware it's good, there are (for me) 2 reasons :
- PowerStrip can't use low frequencies
- I haven't well configured.

For the first reason, I've seen eveywhere that the only limitation was the hardware.

So I think it's the configuration in which there are some mistakes.

I'll make a new try, and I'll feedback here.

Thanks again.

Well, I've progressed in my tests.

I've had yesterday half a success, and I've got some questions.

I've succeeded in displaying Windows on my monitor, so I think I'm on a good way. 15 kHz can be configured under Windows.
I've used PowerStrip 3.30, and played with the blue arrows under Custom Timing to decrease H sync to 15.725 and V sync to 30 Hz, which gives 60 Hz in interlaced resolution.
But my desktop is quite stretched horizontally.

I have searched on google and in this forum, I haven't found a good explanation on how to well configure Power Strip.

I haven't the parameters right now, as i'm on work, but I'll post this evening.

Can anyone help me ?

Thanks.
