I am running a HL2 game server and sometimes after i reboot the server is no longer seen on the net, I'm not sure if my dynamic ip is the problem but like i said SOMETIMES it is online with no problems.
I have tried to save my settings at the time when the server is online so that when i do reboot i can reload those settings and all would be fine again but with no luck. Most times when i start the server it is not seen but every now and then it is online, do i need a STATIC ip or are my ports and firewall interfering and losing allowed programes after i reboot? If the ports and firewall settings are being lost somehow it does not seem so from looking at the firewalls allowed programs.
What would you try?
I do not have a router.

A dynamic IP is a problem for a server. You need some means of getting the updated IP to those you wish to connect, such as a DNS setup to service dynamic IPs.
-
steam stores servers by IP and not names. My friend's server is setup using a dyndns name, but if his IP address changes, I have to re-enter the dyndns name to connect. So even though his server is listed in my favorites, I can't connect, because steam is trying to connect to the old IP address. Slightly annoying, but easy to get around.

I just had to tell the regs on the server to look for the name if they want to play there as the ip changes most times.
