Title: USB wheel -> Dreamcast converter?
Post by: pmc on September 06, 2005, 04:13:47 pm
So I have a PC 270-degree wheel that's good for a MAME game or two. But now I'm staring at the Dreamcast (which has lots of driving titles) and then looking at the USB connector on the wheel, then back again at the Dreamcast, and then back...

Is there a converter? Alternatively, the guts on the wheel are simple enough. Some buttons and a pot. Seems like I could hack it like any other controller. Or hack it "through" a hacked controller maybe. But I don't know much about USB and don't want to fry anything. A two headed cable (one dreamcast connector and one USB connector) would make me very happy. But the +5V business for USB implies a problem to me even though the DC controllers use 5V.

I could get a DC wheel and buy a converter to go the other direction I guess (DC controller to USB like this thing (http://www.consolesandgadgets.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/23_51/products_id/1000)). But I already got a wheel. Possible? Or just drop it? Luv this hobby. Everything can somehow be hacked to everything else.

or try this http://www.consolesandgadgets.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/23_51/products_id/147 with a PSX steering wheel and leave the USB one for MAME/PC

I've already got a converter like that. Nice for ePSXe. Maybe that's what I'll do for the wheel. But the USB wheel is already mounted to cabinet control panel. I hate to go through the trouble of making another wheel control panel. But maybe that's the way to go. Thanks.
