Every Galaga I've ever seen has always had a high pitched whine in the sound. Galaga is also a game that needs the power cranked up. I recall an old service bulletin Midway issued stating to crank the supply to 5.2 volts.
The random lockups/resets are due to a timing error between chip manufacturers. Midway issued a service bulletin on that (in a big blue covered "Midway Service Bulletins" report cover) stated something there was a timing compatibilty error between manufacturers of certain chips on the board. It said to be sure chips at certain locations were all the same manufacturer or something like that.

Alot of times the tiny ceramic disc capacitors at the very edge of the circuit boards get damaged/hairline fractured from sliding down the tracks of that card cage frame.
