just wondering if and how often you brush your teeth. i used to do it twice a day but now i do it about every morning after a full day of eating. and flossing, yea right. if you hardly ever brush, do you have a lot of fillings? at what age do you see the effects of not brushing or flossing?
-
Just GOOGLE that **** dude!
I would say , brush after every meal, and right before bedtime, so if you're at all like me, you should be brushing at least 6-8 times a day.
You have to take care of your teeth man! >:(
Or you'll be wearing one of these! ;D
-
3x every day. Morning, after lunch, when I go to bed.
Some people just have genetically good or bad teeth. My brother has had problem after severe problem with his teeth even though he had good hygiene and dental care. My wife, on the other hand, has a pretty and straight smile and has only had one or two cavities in her life despite her parents almost never taking her to the dentist as a child.
-
2-3 times a day. I also use a water pick and gargle with Listerine. I hate to floss. Make sure you brush your tongue.
-
brushing teeth is too boring, i spend my time doing more important things, like posting on message boards all day, duh
*edit* and eating bacon
-
Dont brush your teeth straight after eating bacon. You want to hold on to that taste for as long as possible.
Now theres a thought, bacon flavour chewing gum!

What does it mean to "brush your teeth"? ???
-S

Sometimes, when you're jamming bonbons down your gob, one brushes your teeth on the way by.
(that's the non post hell version of the joke)
-
i was hoping most of you had false teeth and could help me avoid the pitfalls of tooth care.
-
I saw some show said brush your teeth BEFORE each meal, and before bed. something about the enzymes in saliva doing a good job right after eating.
::)
Meh, Art

don't be a yuckmouth :-X

Yeah, that's it, make all your meals taste like toothpaste.
Actually, when I cut my bodyfat, sometimes I do that. When I'm really hungry I'll brush my teeth a lot so the food will taste like crap.

Bah, especially since toothpaste contains an antifreeze...

Well do YOU want your teeth to freeze?

raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanch
sorry couldnt help it ;D

A lot of it is really just having either good, or bad teeth, and how much sugar you eat. For pretty much my whole life until recently I brushed my teeth about twice a week (I brush daily now), and I don't have a single cavity, or any other dental problems other than a mild discoloration from when I used to smoke, and even that seems to be going away.
-
I brushed my teeth about twice a week
I have come to the realisation that sometimes it is possible to know too much about a person.
That's pretty gross dude.

Not really, it is actually incredibly common. I do brush daily now, but I did not when I was younger.
The only reason we have to brush our teeth AT ALL is because of the insane amounts of extra sugar in our diet.

I argue the opposite sex would disagree.

Used to brush in the morning only. Never had a cavity up till about age of 34 when I started drinking 6+ pops a day. Now I think every molar is drilled. So I would conclude there is a very strong correlation to sugar and tooth decay.
I now drink mostly just water, and brush 3 times a day, floss once a week, dentist twice a year
On the plus side my dentist uses that plastic filling stuff, so you can't tell I have a filling without an xray! ;D If you need a filling ask about those. I heard a couple of mixed reviews about them when I got my first one, but now I've had them for 3 years, and no problems at all.
-
I heard on the radio recently that tooth decay is on the increase and they are blaming the increased popularity of bottled water which does not contain fluoride. (We have had a few water scares here over the last couple of years. People have died.)
This may or may not be the cause of the tooth decay increase but don't get me started on fluoride.
There is little doubt in my mind that fluoride is not a healthy thing to consume regardless of the tooth decay propiganda wagon and its raving fat cat loonies.
-
There are constant lawsuits back and forth in my small town about whether or not the board of health has the authority to order fluoride added to the water. They'll start to add it, then the board of selectman will order it stopped, then the board of health will add it, then someone will call the attorney general... etc etc. It's been ugly the last couple of years.

I was born with a birth defect with my enamel. Im susceptible to easy cavities and stuff so i take care of my teeth.
I brush when i wake up, after every meal, before bed. I floss as much as i can.
I guess im a special circumstance because of my tooth condition.
-
yeah i brushed my teeth..
once ;D

Paige, you had awful nasty-ass rot-breath. Your olfactory was just overloaded by it. You generally can't smell your own bad breath. Believe me, if you were brushing only twice a week, your breath was like a rotting corpse.
I brush morning and brush and floss every night before bed. I sometimes brush after lunch, or before I go out somewhere in the evening, but not regularly.
And Paige, let me reiterate: Revolting.

Now we know why Paige has the social problems he does...
Regarding the original question, I have always brushed 2-3x a day, occasionally flossing, and at 35 I have alot of "ridges" forming at the gum line, where the teeth are decaying.
So to the original poster: Don't be an idiot.
There's also the breath issues already discussed. Do the world a favor. Seriously, I used to work with this guy who's the nicest guy in the world, but I swear he must not have brushed his teeth in the mornings. He breath was so raunchy I would avoid meeting with him (even though it was necessary to get or work done).
The only reason we have to brush our teeth AT ALL is because of the insane amounts of extra sugar in our diet.
Are you nuts? You think brushing has only to do with SUGAR? I know that's the impression the world gives to CHILDREN, since they are into candy much more than adults, but geez, you're telling me if I have big chunks of chicken between my teeth, it's not necessary to brush unless I took in sugar that day? I'm exagerrating, but alot more stuff than sugar accumulates on teeth.
-
There is a guy I work with who comes to my for assistance a lot. My cube is small, even in the cubicle world. He stands literally close enough that he's making contact with my chair and his breath smells like he has dead rodents in his mouth.
-
I usually brush at least twice a day. I'm lazy at flossing, though, and probably only do that a time or two a week. Never had any problems with cavities or any other maladies.
-
Don't forget to floss your teeth or you may end up like....

All foods are broken down into sugars by our bodies. The process starts the second the food comes into contact with your saliva. Refined sugars are bad because they're pretty much already there, but cutting sugar from your diet doesn't actually cut sugar from your diet.
I'm going off memory from my food and nutrition class which was years ago, so any dieticians out there can iron out any details here.
-
I'm not sure about all food being broken down into sugar (although I guess it could be true, I'm no dietician either) but I know for sure that this is true for starchy foods.

From a trip to www.howstuffworks.com and www.wikipedia.com I believe that all carbohydrates are converted to sugar (glucose), all fats are converted to sugar (or stored), but proteins are converted to amino acids. Sugar is energy; amino acids are building blocks. But even protein must be partially converted, because both carbs and protein contain calories (units of energy) and I think, but could be wrong, that something we eat only has calories if it can be burned.

so does brushing and flossing that much wear down your gums?
