Title: inconsistent brightness with dreamcast
Post by: muell67 on August 24, 2005, 11:45:37 pm
Well I finally have my dc hooked up to my super neo 29 cabinet and everything is working great. MY only complaint is that I have to adjust the brightness on my monitor  every time I switch games. Its not that far off but still I dont think this is normal. Is anyone else having this problem. I have to adjust the brightnes when switching jamma board but I wouldn think it should be necessary with the dc. I never had to when it was hooked to a tv.

I think some of those candy cabs have a monitor that has an auto-brightness adjustment circuit.  This may be what's causing your problem.

Are you saying you have to adjust the brightness when you switch between one DC game and another?  Or between DC system and Jamma PCBs?  If its the latter, I think thats normal as a hack DC-VGA box is not outputting exactly the same voltage on RGB as a PCB.

I have been running DC consoles inside 3 different style cabs with different monitor manufacturers, and never had this problem of inconsisitant brightness from on DC game to another.

It may be that you have it set to low to begin with and its less noticable on some games than others. *shrug*  Or maybe it takes awhile for your monitor to warm up?  Is it inconsistant from one day to the next with the same game inside?  May just me a monitor problem/issue.

well I guess Im not going to worry about it. It really isnt bad enough that I would need to adjust it for everygame, its only if you want the optimal picture. I was just a little concerned that it didnt seem normal.

Could this possibly be caused by poor grounding? I only used the sync ground I did not use the individual ground from r/g/b. The vga cable I hacked did not have seperate wires for the ground. They were made into the shielding on the r/g/b wires.
