Title: Electronic parts online?
Post by: enemyace on January 02, 2003, 01:30:54 pm
What is the best place to get wiring parts, project boxes, leds, etc? Should I try Radioshack online, other vendors, or just go to the local Radioshack? What's the best source for online parts? So far, I've looked at PartsExpress.com and web-tronics.com, and I've noticed that something like a 12 terminal block is under a dollar at those and over two dollars at the local Radioshack. Should I go for the low price of an online reseller, or should I go with the convenience of a local Radioshack and the lack of shipping costs?

Also, what wattage of soldering iron would you guys recommend for doing a Sidewinder hack?

Thx,
EA

Here are a few alternatives in no particular order:

Mouser Electronics (http://www.mouser.com)
DigiKey (http://www.digikey.com)
Allied Electronics (http://www.alliedelec.com/)
Electronics Supply Inc. (http://eskc.com/)
Newark Electronics (http://www.newark.com)

Have you dealt with these companies before? Which one has been the best in your experience?

Thanks a lot. =)

Depends on what your looking for and how much your going to spend. If all you need is a $2 project box go get it from your local radio shack. If your going to spend a $100 on misc. stuff its probably worth buying it online. I've been pretty dissapointed in Radio Shacks selection and prices the last few times I've gone there looking for things. So you might not have a choice if they don't have what you want.

Another alternative would be local electronics stores near you but it all depends on what your looking for.
