My work here is done.

the only way to overcome the house edge is by counting after mastering basic strategy. you should play a game that gives you a favorable advantage against weaker players like poker.

Hee hee, I never play poker, but I recently won a 13 man game with a bunch of my friends who play ALL the time.
I pretty much bluffed my entire win.

yeah i play in the holdem tournaments in AC every so often. i usually go when its a 50$ buy in, 1st place ends up being a couple grand, and the top 15 or so usually get cash starting at like 300-400$. i got knocked out kinda early last time, me and this guy both end up goin all in vs each other i had 4 aces he had a straight flush =\
yeah as far as the money, probably will just put a double payment toward my car this month and save 200$ to go toward my next trip to AC hehe. my car will finally be fully paid in like 2 months i cant wait to not have any payments to make

There are guys I work with that frequently go out to Eindhoven with $100 and come back with $2000.

I'm impressed!
Novice blackjack player here...just tried it out while in Colorado. Won $20 and $25 respectively, after starting with $10 at two different tables.
Liked the casinos there due to the $5 max bet. I didn't want to be the one coming home with pocket lint and missing a shoe...my wife would have killed me! As it was, she was pretty impressed with my earnings.
Hey, I had fun at least :)

I'm not really sure why, but gambling simply doesn't appeal to me. In any way. It's not even that I don't like games associated with gambling. I enjoy poker, blackjack, etc... when not associated with gambling. When you throw the monetary win/loss aspect at it I simply have zero interest. I border on being against it, but being (note small l) libertarian, I'm pretty much against gambling myself but have no problem with other people gambling.
I've had long, fun nights playing poker with friends, but I always decline to play when money is involved. I'm not even sure why, I just don't want to do it.

It's called , bad poker players don't like to bet there money and lose.
Or, your not confident in your skills or lack of. Same same.
-
Win or lose, I just don't have as much fun playing poker when money isn't involved. I think the game is completely different when there is actually something at stake. I would probably rather play a game where I lose $20 than play a game with no money on the line.
-
yeah exactly, people play a LOT different when theres money at stake. when I play holdem with my friends we always throw in 20$ each to give us some incentive.
oh and i ended up going back the next day cause my friends wanted to go to the IMAX there and see batman beyond, which was badass btw. and i won another 100$ on blackjack ;D

Not really. I've paid entry fees into fantasy football leagues, won, and then left the prize on the table. I didn't come to win money and didn't want the money. The few times in my life I have actually gambled, I usually came out ahead. I just don't feel comfortable doing it.
-
Gambling should never be seen as a means for actually making money. You set a certain amount aside before you go, and that is your "entertainment budget". It's the cost of having fun.
If you play poker at a friend's place one night, you're there for 4 hours, and you lose $20, that's not bad at all. That same $20 would have only lasted a couple hours to take a date to the movies or bowling or something. And $20 doesn't go very far buying drinks or food, either.
-
That much I can see, paying $20 for a couple hours of entertainment. I don't even really see that as gambling. How many people 'gamble' $20, though? Most people, when they gamble, seem to want to show up with $500.
-
yeah figured i would bump this, i won another 400$ profit tonight.... I love life
