I heard about this. Its some kind of Korean handheld that runs emulators, but thats all I found. Anyone else know about it?

wow I thought they had cancelled the sequel to the GP32. I will definitely be getitng one :)

trouble is that its a dual core.. which is useless for mame
and I heard the mame build wasn't all that hot for it.
You might find that you pay a lot for a 5 frame skip pacman :(
-
NOTE: After looking a little closer. There is a main processor (ARM920T, speed??) and a video coprocessor. MUCH better for mame... Assuming the arm chip has some guts to it.
-
That thing looks awesome, actually better that the PSP, if only just for being open source. I thought the GP32 was a little lacking in the cool emus realm. I need my handheld to play MAME SNES and GENESIS, all of which they are advertising, which is why you gotta love Korea for being tech saavy way out there on the fringes of everything.
Cheers,

The only place I could find with the arm920t and clock speed listed says its 180mhz. I'm curious how optimized it is, and how the real end speed will be with mame.
The ngage has a 100mhz core. and it runs games at full speed with a 5 frameskip... and only some.
I would worry that it wont be enough to make a real difference. But then again, I hear that the psp emulation is doing great. And its processor isn't super fast... just more optimized (or might just be over that hump to make it closer to the system speeds when .36 was released... so more games are optimized for that speed)
The gizmondo I'm also interested in. Hope its hacked soon for homebrew games.

See link below for specification:-

Each CPU should run at 200 MHz.
:)

The GPX2 is DEFINITELY on my must by list. They just upped the memory size to 64MB, so hopeully it will be able to play some Neo Geo.
Since Gamepark Holdings (the company who will release it) is putting emulators front and center as a selling point, and since the specs are confined to fast 2d gaming (with an emphasis on the 2d graphic coprocessor which should up the horsepower of the 2d ability quite a bit over the original GP32), I'm hoping that GBA emulation and butter-smooth SNES emulation will be possible.
Imagine: serious emulation gaming on the go with no DRM concerns, no mod chips or other hacks, no buying overpriced flash memory cartridges, etc. Just buy an off-the-shelf SD card, copy over your emulators, MP3s and games and go! Plus there will be complete access to the SDK library so emulator authors will rejoice.
Easily worth the $180-$200 it will take to get one into my hands.

I may just be tech-ignorant but if this new model is as "fast" as a 200 mhz PC, I'm not impressed a bit. Have you tried running SNES or Genesis emu's on a 200 mhz, not very smooth at all. And Neo-Geo, not likely.
I have the gp32, mine runs @ 156mhz and there just now is an emulator that will run SNES smoothly without sound. I am very disappointed in the emu ability of mine except for PCengine and the newest Genesis emu. Just my 2 cents.
When you guys get one of the new models please keep us posted, I'd really like to be proven wrong on this one, I had such high hopes for the gp32 that I have.

a 200mhz PC and a 200mhz processor used in something like this is entirely different.
A Sony PSP runs some (most?) games at 233mhz, and the processor has a top speed of 333mhz. You certainly wouldn't be running those games one a 333mhz PC.
It's apples to oranges, you can't compare the two.

I wasn't implying that the boost in mhz from the GP32 to GP32x would be significant.
I was just saying that you can't compare a newer mobile processor running at 200mhz to a 200mhz PC. There is just too much going on to compare the two.
Like I said, the PSP runs at max, 333mhz, and it does things a 333mhz PC can't even think of doing.

OK I gotcha. It will be interesting to see what people think when they get some hands-on experience with this one.
Hopefully, (not being ungrateful mind you, I'm not a coder and I don't play one on TV!) the emu dev scene will pick up on this with a bit more gusto than the original gp32.
Any rumors about the actual release of this one?
