Title: Game resolution different than monitor....help..
Post by: ninjazx7 on December 17, 2002, 10:06:10 am
Hi guys, I hooked everything up for my JAMMA cabinet last night and was able to get MK3 Ultimate running on a TV. The only problem is that the resolution of the game seems to be different than that of the TV, so I don't see the entire field of play. It's cutting off a little bit of all 4 sides. Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this?

Thanks,
Matt

What is sounds like is a bit of overscan.  TVs are generally setup to cut off the far edges of the picture so that it hides the faults that may show up.   Your game is a standard res game and TVs with the JROK converter can only show standard res so it cannot be a resolution mismatch.

Try adjusting the picture on your TV if you have the controls for hoiz size and vert size.    You may have to touch up the hoiz pos and vert pos along the way to keep things centered.

Unfortunately, I don't have any controls for the horizontal and vertical sizes. Think I'm SOL?

Hmmmmm....how difficult would that be? Is that something that only a TV technician should even attempt to do?

If you have to ask, I do not recommend you attempt it (There can be enough electricity stored in the capacitor for the beam to kill you).  You can take it to a TV tech and they may be able to make the adjustment for you, but the TV might not like it...No way to tell until it's tried really...

SNAAAKE.....no go. I opened it up and there weren't any knobs anywhere.

Anyone else have an idea?

In-game menus also have adustments.  I belive the midway games had a fine tuing screen in the diagnositc menu.

Also what snaake forgot to mention is that fiddling with the dials is dangerous, not so much for getting shocked (unless you are stupid enough to touch anything) but if you get it out of sync it can be very hard to get it back again unless you are a proper technician.  You an get it "close" but not perfect, like it was at the factory.  Also modern tv's often have micro pots and aren't clearly labeled and sometimes aren't even visible without removing stuff.
Your best bet it to either pay a LOT of money to hire a technician to do it or find someone who is familair with the innards of tv's and have them help you.

All kidding aside if you don't know what your are doing there is a good chance you could get hurt and nobody wants to see that happen.  :)
