Title: TV or Monitor?
Post by: stellarx2003 on December 13, 2002, 12:07:18 pm
I just got through building my cab and i'm using an ancient (At least 10 yrs old) like 25" TV. It is good for some games where the writing is big, but the games with small txt and like the frontend for choosing games is almost unreadable.
I'm using an ATI Radeon 9000 64MB w/ s-video out going to a converter box that in turn hooks to the ant- in on the tv.

Just wondering if I should go for a new tv or put a VGA monitor in it and turn scanlines on. It's too rough on the eyes the way it is now.

The problem is that you are using the worst possible way to connect a video card to a TV: the antenna in. The converter box adds an RF component to the video and greatly degrades the image in the process. Your best bet is to get a TV with S-video in for excellent results. Even using the composite video input should give you better results than the method you are using now. So in a nutshell: scrap the old tv and get a new one; you'll save tons of money over a monitor of similar size.
