I used to own that. i threw it out with a whole bunch of of other arcade stuff.
-ikari warriors marquee
-wrestlefest marquee
-double dragon pcb
-mame cab with conrols
-rolling thunder pcb
conclusion: what the fu*k was i thinking

It's vinyl?  And stapled to a board?

I want one, but I'd rather have the real thing.

It is the real thing.
That was how it was manufactured.
I guess if you removed it from the board, It could be backlit  ???

You can't remove it. It's "stapled" only at the edges. It's actually adhesive-backed vinyl stuck to wood. Crystal Castles and I think Millipede used the same basic concept, except they had an opening in the wood, with glass, to let light through.

Rolling Thunder was a very short cab, and as such they designed it with this non-illuminating marquee. (One of my favorite games BTW).

It would still be a cool atari collectible.
It looks very retro looking  ;D
