Title: Warning! Avoid buying from Videoconnection!
Post by: usedelectronics on June 02, 2005, 03:00:45 am
I really hate making posts like this.. But I feel it necessary to warn people about my recent dealings with videoconnection. (Mostly known for their stock of overpriced NOS LS-30's)

I contacted them about a few items for one of my NEO-GEO cabs.
I.E. Sideart, monitor bezel, a mini marquee for one of my games, and a control panel overlay.

After discussing exactly which items I needed, I sent payment and they sent me the parts.

I was unpleasantly surprised when I got them.

The sideart had cut marks through them, the mini marquee was not only the wrong one, but a laminated inkjet copy. Worst of all was the CP overlay. I requested a multi slot overlay(with the game select button). What I got was a single slot overlay, with a hole crudely hacked into it for a game select button. Additionally the entire overlay was chipping and peeling badly, especially around the hacked hole.

I contacted them in a friendly manner, mentioning that I wasn't happy with the quality of the parts, and the incorrect mini-marquee.
A employee of videoconnect said he would look into it right away, and would get it corrected.

Needless to say, several days passed with no response. Then another mini-marquee showed up in the mail. To my suprise, it was the correct game this time, but it was just a laminated inkjet copy.
I emailed them again, asking why they didn't mention on their website that they were selling photocopied mini-marquees.
I have still not heard back, nearly two weeks later.

Photo's of the damaged items and photocopied marquees available if anyone is interested.

What would you recommend I do?
Seeing as how I received parts, paypal won't help me. And I am a bit hesitant to send them the parts back, for fear of not getting my money back.

Start a dispute with your credit card company.

It's paypal.  I'm guessing it draws directly from his bank account.

Correct. No credit card involved.

You could report them to the Better Business Bureau.
EVENTUALLY they'll get shut down if enough people complain.

Does PayPal have a provision for disputing payments?

Only if  Vidoconnection is part of the BBB.  Is an organization whose members join in order to distinguish themselves as a reputable business.  If Videoconnection did join, the most that would come out of a BBB complaint is a revocation of their BBB membership.

I've seen Pete at the Super Auctions here, trust me, he's no way involved with any kind of bureau.

Wasn't Buy-Rite shut down due to BBB complaints?

I ordered from Video Connection a few years ago. Overall I was happy with their service and got all the parts I had ordered in reasonable condition.

But one thing I did find irritating was that they never ever responded to my emails even though they claimed to offer email support when I phoned them. I can't understand why they even bother quoting an email address.
