I used to be able to select a game by joystick in Mame32 but it stopped working.
I have Win XP and a Gravis USB gamepad.
It is enabled and I can use it in the games but not to select a game from the Mame32 menu like I used to.
I have the latest official release.
Any ideas?

In mame32 GUI, go to "Options"::"Startup Options..." and check the allow joystick selection box. Exit and restart mame32.

Select with joystick? How does it do that? Do you push a certain direction to get enter?

In mame32, you can change which game is hightlighted by moving the joystick up and down, and start the game by pressing button 1. Many FEs can do this.

Thanks! I was stupid! That was so obvious yet I hunted several times without finding it!

mclean does it work for you? I checked the box and restarted and no button will start the game after i scroll to it with the stick.

Yup - works great!
I am using a a gamepad and the first fire button does it.
Are you using a keyboard type controller?
Maybe you need to map a button to Enter?
I would like to know this as well since I am building one now with an IPac.

if i remember correctly the default settings of the I-pac will give you enter if you hit the shift button and joystick right.

if you're using Mame32, I believe Mame.61 or later will have that option....
but Mame32 .58 does not....
there is a startup option... and you can use the joystick (gamepad hack) to control the movements....
1st button is play game....
2nd and 5th button is like next "letter" down...
3rd and 6th button is the top and bottom....
although still not as efficient as a mouse... but using the panel... you can select to the game you want at somewhat reasonable speed..... ;D ;D ;D
hope it helps....
