Title: Homade degausing coil question
Post by: shmokes on May 19, 2005, 12:47:31 am
I was at my friend's house the other day and noticed that his TV (about a 30 inch wide-screen tube-based HDTV) had a purple spot in the corner.  I remembered back to seeing these instructions for making and using a homeade degaussing coil (http://www.oscarcontrols.com/degauss/index.shtml) and decided I would make one to cure his TV.

Should I worry at all about messing his TV up, though?  I've never done this and won't even attempt it if I might possibly make the problem worse.  Is there any reason an HDTV would react any differently to a degaussing coil than a standard def TV?  What about a widescreen?

Essentially do I have anything to worry about or can I just make the thing and go fix his TV?

Oh yeah...and can I just use a regular arcade pushbutton or do I need something that is made for a lot more electricity to be flowing through it?

Additionally, does anyone have an idea of what wattage lightbulb I should use?

thanks
