Title: Amityville Horror
Post by: Jabba on May 03, 2005, 11:30:23 pm
Saw it tonight along with Hitchhikers.

First Horror movie to scare the Bejesus out of me like the Ring in a while...

Anyone else see it? Any opinions...?

I haven't seen it yet, but I didn't think The Ring was all that scary. I mean it WAS, but Blair Witch was much worse.

How is it compared to the original?

Ya, Blair Witch scared me too. Prolly more than the Ring now that you mention it.

I remember seeing the Amityville original. I found the new one quit a bit different, but mostly largely the same if you know what I mean. Red Room, "Scary Windows", etc...

Would definately be worth the Cheapy Tuesday 8$ I paid to see both those movies IMO...

Seems to be a lot of stuff on the Internet that I'm starting to look at...Guess its peaked my interest a little...

Ya, I caught this last Saturday with the GF.

I've succombed to chick flicks for our last several movie outings, followed her around the mall while she hunted for summer shorts,  so I got to pick.

It was alright, scared the bejesus out of her which is always good for a laugh for me, but as others stated, the end was kinda blaze'....

I wished I had chosen Ring 2 but it was not yet showing at the time we were ready to watch.

I review movies for our local cable TV channel.

I personally think a lot of the older horror movies are scarier than the new ones coming out anyways. The stories to all the movies are the same ol' crap as it ever was. but I think cinematographers put more effort into the older movies to make them look darker and more sinister.

It's funny what some people consider scary and others don't. I guess it boils down to age. The older I get the more jaded I am, because most movies keep repeating the same stupid plotlines and cliches over and over. "Actress freezes, eyes wide--fixated. Oh my! What is she staring at so long!? She's scared stiff! Cant move! Ahh! What is it?!! ahh! Now we reveal something which is probably obvious to you by now...Like the bad guy isn't really dead! He's revived himself for the third time! AHHH!"

John Carpenter's "The Thing" was always one of my favorite scary movies. That and Jacob's Ladder.

I was flipping the channel the other evening and came across Shivers by David Cronenberg. What a HORRIBLE movie. It was soooo bad it was funny. And to think, it was based in Montreal.

Anyone else see this movie?

I don't think it's age. I think it depends on how a person thinks. Some people are scared by what they see and some are scared by what they don't see.

Personally, I think Blair Witch was one of the most scary movies I ever saw. I know other people who claim it wasn't scary at all because nothing happened (which is true). Those same people tend to think Freddie/Jason movies are scary and I don't.

Well, what I meant by age is that the older you get the more you've likely seen and the less likely stupid hollywood movies are going to actually "scare" you.

Watching Friday the 13th when I was 12, and alone in the house was scary. But today, that kind of movie isn't really scary. It's just gory. And even the gore doesn't bother me much anymore.

You wanna know what's the "scariest" movie in the last year, even for a jaded movie-goer? "The Forgotten". Not because it has a deep plotline, or excellent acting or even a creepy atmosphere. They rely on just surprising the crap out of you when you least expect it.

I've heard the Japanese version of the Grudge is 10x scarier than it's American version, and that scared me silly.

I'll buy that. It seems that the only thing that sacres me is when I see something different.

And I'm sorry but The Grudge wasn't even the least bit scary. That and the Ring 2 are my nominations for the least scary, scary movies.

Saw the grudge--I was frustrated that it didn't make more sense--I mean tracking down and killing anyone who walks in the house??  what if a busload of tourists stopped there by accident? is the ghost going to be 24/7 hunting and killing??  just seemed a stretch.

Really liked the forgotten, good mystery and the whole spooking you when you least expect it didn't get tiring--very well placed I thought.

The ring--that one gave me the willies--thought it was pretty good.

Blair witch--too busy fending off nausea to be scared but considering what it had to work with, i think it was an excellent idea for its time .  That said it could never be done like that again cause the magic would be lost i think.

and...the scariest movie of all time...the exorcist..i still won't watch that one at night--I don't know what it is but man it freaks me out...

I thought Blair Witch was pretty good until right at the end where they not only went in the spooky house in the woods but actually WENT IN THE BASEMENT! Haven't they ever SEEN a horror movie? The Ring didn't scare me that much although I thought the twist was nice (if a little obvious)

I like my old school horror movies. The Exorcist, The Omen (Spookiest soundtrack ever), TCM and the like. I also have a passion for really BAD horror movies because they're just fun. Driller Killer, The Hills Have Eyes, Basket Case and all those. One of the most interesting I think is Suspiria just because its visually amazing.

If you're one of the "what you don't see is scarier" people like me then you should check out the PC adventure game "Dark Fall" The atmosphere in that one makes Silent Hill look like Pac-Man.
