Title: old school classics, dosmame
Post by: epic69 on May 03, 2005, 02:55:40 pm
My question is this. Can i run dos mame 0.95 on a 200 mhz gateway pc with 64mb ram in dos 7.0 (win98se)? Or will this be way too slow? I am going to be using a 19" vertical arcade monitor with arcadeos.
If the current version of dosmame 0.95 is goign to be too slow will running an older version of mame make a difference? if so can i use a rom set for 0.95 mame on an older build of mame? or are they not backward compatible?

Thanks everybody.

It will run, but be waaaaaay too slow.

If you're just interested in playing, try out VAntAGE (http://www.mameworld.net/pc2jamma/).

If you're interested in accuracy, upgrade to at least a 500MHz processor.

Too slow even with using an older version of dosmame? then using an old version of dos mame will roms work with it? I guess really getting a 500mhz and mb at this point is really not that expensive, should be able to find cpu and mb for under $40 i woudl think and then if i got AGP slot then much easier to just use the arcadeVGA i got.

Well, you said DOS Mame .95.  Sure, an older version will work.
