Today I visited a model boat show in the UK and saw some guys racing radio controlled sailboats
I was so inspired I bought myself one of these kits

I've been wanting to get into something like this. Nowadays witht he ready to fly, sail, race R/C vehicles it is easy to get into the hobby.
-
Someone say RC planes? :P
-
That almost looks like my plane that I've "flown" three times so far... total of maybe 4 seconds airtime. It needs repair (again) from the last time. I went with a Focke Wulf, but should have bought one of those super slow things to start.
On a brighter note, I stumbled into a collection at a garage sale late last year. A guy was selling his father-in-laws collection. The plane had been squished, but was a HUGE dual engine plane (~8' wingspan). I also got a drawer rack thingie with a ton of small parts and like a dozen engines for $20. I'll be playing with them this summer. I'll build something... not sure what yet, but I'm sure I'll crash it. ;)

That's a plane we built at school this year for a competetion. It has about a 8.5 foot wingspan, weighs around 13 pounds (loaded), and flies about 60 mph... RC planes are great fun. :D
-
its funny, i could never fly RC planes properly. i only figured out control line once i learnt how to fly the REAL thing! (although i never told any of my passengers that i kept crashing my models, hehe) so i went into RC boats because they are so much harder to damage ;D
-
My buddy has an RC Helicopter.. Very hard to fly.

Call me stupid (it's been done before ;)), but how do you get your boat back when it goes out of range? In theory, I would think it "turns around", but how well does that actually work? I could build a swamper boat pretty easily...
-
I've been flying R/C for about 6 years now. I have 2 planes and am building a 3rd (Tower hobbies Trainer 60, Ace Big Bingo, Piper Cub). I'm also running R/C nitro and electric on-road and off-road (HPI Super nitro RS4 w/ .26 OFNA and an Associated RC10B4 buggy)). If you have any questions regarding R/C, let me know. I'd be glad to help.

[edit] wow some really good stuff on that site!
then again maybe i will make one of theses (BYO RC Duck)...

oddly enough I just got back into RC cars--here's the old standby: the tamiya 4wd vanquish--solid little car that goes like snot :D I put the slicks on so I wouldn't burn up good tires bashing around the road out front. Nice thing about these is that i can leave a nice skid mark and not really car if i wear right through them.

batteries will last all day if they're fresh at the start. just make sure you have the recommended type as winches i believe can draw more current than normal servos

this jet boat project is pretty impressive - i would love to do a similar project - i bet it was expensive to mill those cnc parts
