We were cleaning out the generator room at work today, and there was this black steel box on industrial-style wheels tucked away in the corner. After dusted it off, we discovered that it was an old A/V case like that used for DJ equipment. Being the thrifty individual that I am (and the only one with a truck ;)) I took it home thinking I could use it. Now that I have it here, I'm wondering what the hell I was thinking. I have no idea if the panels work or not, but now I'm kinda like.....hmm.....what now.
What say the community? ;D

That's a server rack, looks like telecom standard.

looks like youve got some kind of a dmx controller or lighting switcher. and a power conditioner, those black knob like things should pull out, they are lights. plus a free 3 space rack drawer.

Somehow I dont see this as a server rack. For 1, its on wheels, and I've never seen a rack on wheels. And 2, its not ventelated at all. The doors that came with it have no slots or fan holes whatsoever. I guess you could always use it as a server rack , but right now, I've got a modded xbox as my file/ftp server so I'm not sure what to do now.

Its not, its an A/V rack. not sure who made that one but there are similar ones made by Anvil, Grundorf, Road Ready, SKB ect...
Its meant for holding power amps, effects units, EQ's and other rack mounted audio equiptment.

Ill take that power cleaner.. :-*

I have seen them hundreds of times, it is standard rack mount hardware. Real servers, rack mount servers, vent directly to the back, which is completely open in your rack. It could well be that a/v racks are the same size as telco racks, but that does look a lot like a telco rack. And yes, there are small telco racks with wheels.
