Title: Arcade controls lock-up?
Post by: GameOver on April 20, 2005, 07:26:13 pm
I run my MAME cab on a 2.2Ghz Celeron using an I-PAC.  When I start my PC from a cold boot, everything is jim dandy.  When I'm done playing, I'll put my PC into hibernate mode.  This way, in theory, when someone else is ready to play they can just walk up & hit a button or move the joystick and the arcade 'wakes up'.  Lately, after coming out of hibernation, the buttons don't work.  Or usually, they'll work until I start a game, then nothing works.  The game attract mode continues to run, but none of the buttons or admin buttons are responsive.  The only solution then is to re-boot my PC.  Even my keyboard which is hooked up thru the IPAC pass thru is unresponsive under these circumstances.  After re-booting everything is fine again.

Any idea what's happening?  It's frustrating having to re-boot all the time!

Thanks.

Huh...no  clue.

In the interim, don't put it to sleep.

Yeah, I guess.  I just need to remember to turn off my TV (burn baby burn!).

In general hibernation causes all kinds of screwy results.  My laptop handles it alright, but my desktop can't come back out of it at all.

How about instead of hibernating your computer, you just put it to sleep? Sleeping and even screensavers will both save your monitor (and sleeping can save energy). I think hibernation is mainly for laptops.

This post coming live from my hotel room in
Las Vegas Nevada!... :)

...on my 56k modem... :(

This is why I use a seperate switch on my machine to lock out the coin doors, turn of the marquee, tv and speakers.... leaves the PC running Mamewah's screensaver, but drops the energy requirements. Turn the switch... instant arcade.

The all in one switch is cool, but leaves something to be desired.
