Title: Mod your Gamecube
Post by: shmokes on April 14, 2005, 01:03:57 am
We already know it can be done now, but here is a case replacement being made by one of the most respected teams in the Xbox mod scene that will let you use regular sized DVD-R media instead of the expensive 3" discs.

As much as I like their chips, they're not very well respected when it comes to delivering what they promise.  A lot of people are still waiting for the replacement Xbox cases they annonuced in 2002.

Really? ...I'd never seen an xbox case replacement announcement from that team until about a month ago.  They've had a front-panel replacement out for quite a while.

Nevertheless....I'm hopeful, cos if it does show up it can probably be expected to be really good quality.

Thanks. I have been waiting for something like this.
I will mod my game cube as soon as a regular DVD fits
been half tempted to do it and cut the top off, but wife and kids would stone me as I slept.

I believe there is a mod chip called 'ViperGC' or something.

Buy the mod. Mod it. Get the case, you can play regular dvd-r's i guess. my question is. Can the GC even read bigger discs with where the laser is and how its designed not to read bigger discs?

No, it won't use the extra space on the bigger discs, but the point is you can use cheaper discs for your copies.

Then do you get more space our of using DVD-R?

Slap yourself. :P

Of course you do NOT get more space. The Gamecube laser only tracks as far as the mini discs it officially uses.

The point of using full size dvd-r's is that it is considerably cheaper. Mini DVD's are novelty priced. Full sized DVD's are not.

How do you go about backing up a GC game? Does that serial port hook up to the computer, to do it?
