Title: RTS Cabinet - Paint pics!
Post by: RTSDaddy2 on March 29, 2005, 10:27:03 pm
Well, finally - two days late, but better late than never.  I got the opportunity to finish painting her over Easter (yeah, I've cracked - it's "her" now).  Pics aren't great, but it will give you some idea of the look we went for.  We liked it...hope you will too!!   ;D

YOU have a lawn that's as flat and pretty as that? Man, where do you live? I've gotta move there! We're on a slope and that thing's the pits to cut!

Like your line about wishing you had the money to live the life you lead...that's great too.

It basically means I spend a lot of money on things which should be put to bills and other essential items. :) I spend more than I can afford.

Fig,

I used an off-white Behr semi-gloss paint for the base coat. I applied two coats of that, sanding it down after each coat dried.

I then had a quart of hunter green paint mixed, again using a Behr semi-gloss.  I mixed the hunter green with a gallon of Behr's Faux Glaze and applied the combined mixture with a sponge roller.  Basically to get the effect you just roll in on any way you choose - in other words don't roll only up and down, but roll side to side once, then up and down, then diagonal, etc.

It produces an effect close to a sheet of marble...it's not clear via the pics, but the glaze gives the paint a definite sheen to it.

Thanks Fig! Appreciate it! Sent you an email earlier today also, so I won't repeat myself here.

This is goofy - but I had to tell you guys - we moved the cabinet, slightly unfinished, in our house this Sunday!  It looks great with our color scheme...but MAN, this thing is BIG!! :)
