Title: Metal Slug on MAME32?
Post by: GameOver on March 27, 2005, 09:36:08 am
Ok - I haven't played the Metal Slug series yet, but after reading so many posts about how great it is, I think I need to try it.  Is this a MAME game, or do I need to install a NEO-GEO emulator to get this to work?  I'm currently running MAME32, which has Metal Slug listed in the games list, and I have the ROM (mslug3n), but when I try to play MAME tells me some stuff is missing.  I don't know if this is because it wasn't meant to run on MAME, or something else?  If I remember, there was something special about the Metal Slug series where it wouldn't run right out of the box.  Any help?

I'll answer my own question - you need neogeo.zip in your roms folder for the Metal Slug series (and I'll assume other NeoGeo games) to work properly on MAME. Someone please correct me if I'm off, but after installing neogeo.zip in my MAME32 roms folder, Metal Slug 3 worked when it didn't work before.   Also King of Monsters 2.  I'll look for others and list them here.

You did answer your own question , that neogeo zip is like the motherboard of neo geo and the game roms are the neo carts.

Thanks.  I see what all the hub bub is about for Metal Slug - very cool game.  I've played MS3 and MSX today.  It ROCKS!   8)
