I hate doing this because this program is a complete mystery to me. I've read all the tutorials and it just doesn't click with me. I think there are too many options...or maybe I'm just too stupid. I'm hoping someone can help me out who understands it better than me...
Here's the exact situation I'm in. I've got a "Full Set" of Uncompressed .90 roms.
meaning that in D:\Roms I have a folder called puckman and it has all the files in that folder. So they're not in zip format yet.
so I've got this like 15gb mess. Here's what I want to do:
Turn D:\Roms into D:\Roms2\game.zip
I think I want a Split Rom Set. Does it matter? I would like the smallest one I think...which one is that?
I've got the MAME v0.90.dat for CMP.
Does anyone know how I would accomplish this? I've done a TON of different ways....but it keeps losing things. for example 1943kai.zip or 1943j.zip will lose all of it's files. Some games work perfectly, but not others. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.
I hope this is enough info.
Thanks in advance..

I can't help you on the zipping front, but I wanna know - why in the heck did you get unzipped ROMsets?
-
I'm not sure what you're doing wrong either, but AFAIK ClrMame should take care of it all for you just fine.
I use split sets since that method seems to have the lowest number of problems associated with it, but that means I have the keep parent ROMs around even if they're not playable in order to play the clones (not a big deal - in fact I don't know anyone who's stated that this is a problem).
Non-Merged sets are just a waste of space and fully merged sets you run into problems with game list generation and you can't delete ANY clones since they're in the same zip file as the parent ROM. That's a big waste of space, especially if you don't want your clones showing up in your game list.

Okay, when I do a scan on the original folder and tell it to scan them it's a split set it doesn't throw any errors. So I assume that what I've got is a split set - uncompressed.
I stated earlier that they were 15gb, that's incorrect...they're 24.2gb.
I guess I could manually zip each directory....but by the time i"m done with that...I'll be 90 and MAME .405 will be out.
Anybody know a pkzip command that will do this? Maybe this isn't ClrMamePro's job. ;)

No, this is one of the things ClrMamePro's for.. And you're in the right place - the Rebuilder tool.
I don't think I know what your problem is.. Is it just not zipping them up? I wonder if you select a different Destination folder if that will fix whatever problem you're having.

P.S. Don't feel bad.. Figuring out ClrMamePro is sort of a "rights of passage" for any hard core l33t arcade-cab master!

Are the folders with the ROMs inside them correct? Ie pacman, bosco, etc?

Recompress files is checked on mine, otherwise it looks the same.

alright, those weren't the exact dirs I was using originally...when I set it up like in the screen shot and hit rebuild it worked fine. That's all I changed was the directorys.
I don't know why, but it worked. Oh well. Thanks for reading my thread.
Now..on to upgrading my sets to .91, then 92, then 93, then 94...then just staying current .....man...video games shouldn't be this much work. ;)
