I start off by saying, I am scared to death of monitors, but I have to do this......
Basically, I'm building a cocktail and the screen is inverted. I need to flip
the yoke wires, but am afraid of mucking around in there without knowing
what to stay away from. Which wires do do you swap ? Red/Blue and or
Yellow/Green . Thats pretty much it.....I attached a pic of my paticular chassis,
it is a visionpro 19" CGA monitor...
Thanks

I finally got brave or stupid enough, but that grey plug just won't budge.....any reommendations...??
-
Pull harder.
;D
Actually, just rock it back and forth untill it comes loose.
You know you can't just filp that wire over right?
You have to invert the pairs.
You won't blow anything up if you do this,
but my question is what is inverted?
Up and down??
Left and right??
Later,
dabone

Up and down......Imagine having a cocktail with a flip open top that opens towards the rear. The monitor is set up correctly from the factory, but once mounted things are wrong, basically all needs to be rotated 180 degrees.

How to discharge a monitor:
See here for pictures and directions: http://www.arcadegames.net/sightsound/discharge.ppt
As this gentlemen points out, it isn't so bad if you pay attention!!!

Can you give a picture from directly above the yoke connection? It's possible they included a ROTATED connector right next to the straight one and you just move the connector from one to the other.
Just pull firm and straight and it should pop out. Look to see if they put silicone caulk around the bottom of it or something.
Also, post a picture of where the wires ATTACH to the yoke itself, not the chassis. Usually you can just swap the spades on the yoke itself without having to cut and swap the chassis connector.

Oh man...that scares me more cadet

Here's a pic Guru

YOU DO NOT -- I REPEAT -- DO NOT need to discharge a monitor in order to swap the yoke wires!!!
Doing so only INCREASES the risk of harm to yourself and/or the monitor.
The yoke wires are in a separate part of the circutry than the 30KVolt Anode.
Discharging a monitor just to swap yoke wires is just like removing the battery out of your car in order to replace a dome light... NOT NECESSARY and only can lead to a spark and damage by unecessarily doing something you don't need to do.
Vader: Unfortunately it appears the yoke wires are permanently attached to the yoke, not connected with spades.
Therefore unless there is another set of 4 silver pegs right adjacent to the yoke connector, you will have to do Bob Robert's suggested yoke flip: Remove the yoke plug from the chassis, snip it in half between the blue and yellow wires, then rotate both the Red/Blue group and Yellow/Green group and push back on. (putting the red wire on the blue pin, blue wire on red pin, yellow on old green pin, etc..)
(Alternately., you could try to remove the wires from the yoke connector using a tiny jewlers screwdriver to press in slightly the hangnail piece of metal that keeps them from sliding out, then pulling the wire with connector out of the plastic, rebending the hangnail ,and reinserting in the opposing hole) This way you don't have to cut the yoke connector. Do this only if you're not going to do it again as bending the hangnails can only be done a few times before they break and then the wires will want to slip out of the connector)

Thanks Guru.....I think I will just snip the wires about 4 inches abouve the connectors and use some quick disconnects....if for somever reason it needs to be changed back. Thanks for the timely responses..
FYI....I've come to the conclusion that the plug is not coming out of that thing....I was pulling so hard the board was lifting up, I think I have enough room in there to cut and crimp though

actually....looks like it will be easier just to unsoldier the wires at the yoke and just reverse them......I jguess to do a 180 turn......just swap the red/blue green/yellow...correct ?
Thanks Tim....

I also notice two small copper line coming off of each connector post....those stay where there at I suppose, right ?

Don't desolder at the yoke itself. The reason being you might mess up and break one or more of the very fine yoke wires and permanently mess up the yoke. Do it on the thick wires next to the chassis connector.
Also the yoke wires, even though they look "bare" are coated in a thin non-conductive coating(otherwise they'd short out with each other). You have to ensure that you don't damage the yoke wire by working around it/pulling/flexing them, etc.. And if you're trying to solder you need to ensure you have the coating gone from the ends you are soldering of course to make contact.
I don't know why you can't remove the yoke plug. I know they're kinda tight on new monitors.. I dont think you are gently rocking it enough to move it. Bobs suggested fix is the best course of action so you dont put in more connectors and increase the resistance of the wire/etc..
Also, I will reply to your other thread, but I now am confused why you're even trying to rotate this via hardware. Mame can rotate whatever game you want with a command line option. Unless your front end can't rotate, there is no need to rotate the monitor.

I should have waited for your input, but the reason I needed to switch the yoke wires was I wanted Windows to be oriented the right way and player one on the left side. I didn't even consider windows rotation for some reason although I use it on my lcd all the time. Go figue....I believe player 1 will be on the right side of the cocktail, but I'll just live with it. I already cut the wires last nite but did it towards the board it self and used molex connectors so I could swap them back easily. After noticing the rather small wires on the yoke, I decided to leave them alone. Since the wires are already done I'll leave them be. Less stuff to confuse windows with and rotation....lol...thanks for the help.....
