Title: Monitor brightness flickers
Post by: Captain_Dingo on March 01, 2005, 08:51:37 pm
I have a 25" Hantarex Polo (I believe) monitor in a Midway Universal cabinet (JAMMA with Ultimate MK3 in it).  When I first turn it on, the brightness is quite low and it must be adjusted to be playable.  After a while, it will flicker, and then it will hold brightness for a few minutes, then flicker and lose it, etc.

Does this sound like something that might be repairable?  The monitor has a little noticeable burn-in (it was obviously in a Street Fighter at some point in its life), so I'm thinking that if it's going to be something too expensive to fix, I might just spring for a new monitor.

Opinions?

While I've never repaired nor seen a Polo, Hantarex are well known eaters of capacitors and flybacks.

Rumor has it this monitor was capped not too long before I got it.  I spoke to one person locally, and he seemed to think it was possibly the flyback as well.

Should I just replace the whole thing?

The flyback is on sale at www.penn-ray.com for $16.95 versus you buying a whole new monitor for $400.
