Title: Anyone ever hacked a Star Wars yoke that used leaf switches for l/r control?
Post by: Ondedge on October 29, 2002, 01:47:17 pm
Just snagged a yoke off Ebay....

The left/right controls are leaf switches... not pots. (see pic here: http://mymamecab.0catch.com/my-sw-rear.jpg )

Obviously... at some point Atart replaced the leafs with pots. Anyone know if the control suffered at all? If the leaf switches work fine I will just use them but if switching to pots is worth it I will go that route. I can snag some gears from a hobby shop (or just tear something apart that has gears).

Thanks all!

Jason

I'm sure the control would not work as well with leaf switches.  The reason why the SW yoke is such a good control is because of its precision aiming.  For this, it must be a full analog control.  Try playing Star Wars with a Happ super, and you'll get about the same effect.  I wonder if your yoke is a prototype.  Have you opened the body of the yoke yet?  There are probably leafs in there as well.  Shouldn't be too hard to hack though.

I agree with you... it just can't be as precise with the leaf switches.

Luckily... it shouldn't be that hard to convert. I just have to find a proper setup to get the correct gear ratio to the pots.

I haven't gotten it yet... so I don't know if the inside has a pot or leafs.

I meant to add... if someone can even simply take a closeup digital pic of the gears that would be all I need.

Just put a quarter (or ruler) in the shot so I have an idea of the scale.

Thanks

I was wondering where that auction had disappeared to.  How did you get it with going through the auction?
