Title: Strange email i keep getting
Post by: tommy on February 23, 2005, 02:41:56 pm
Here it is this is the second of this kind, but before it had another womans name on it

Dear Friend,

I pray God this message reaches you in wonderful
spirit.I am making this contact with you based on trust and confidence
irrespective of the fact that we have not met before and because of the
natureof the situation I found myself. I am Mrs. Jessica A.Savimbi , from
Angola.l got your contact from www. and coupled with the information i
gathered about you from the external trade department of my country's
chamber of commerce and industry.

There is an information I would like you to keep very
confidential. There is sum amount of money my late Husband {former
UNITA Rebel leader} General Jonas Malheiro Savimbi deposited in a suspence
account with a Bank for safe keeping few months before he was
assasinated by the Angolan Millitary force sometime three years. The squable
happened as over the issue of mineral and allocation resource of diamond
using his power and influence to smuggled diamond to the neighbouring
countries in exchange for money and other valuable assets. Presently, I am
staying in one of the refugee camps outside Angola just to save my life, with
my three children. The money in question is $10,500,000.00 Milllion
U.S.Dollars.

I can't make the withdrawal of this fund, because my
husband registered the beneficiary of the fund as his (Foriegn Bussiness
Partner). But the documents of the deposit are with me. What I would want
you to do, is to assist me to get the funds withdrawn from the Bank, have
the same transfered to your country in your name and thereafter share the
funds by giving you 25% of the total sum as commission. Please there is no
risk in this transaction. I will use the remain balance of the money for an
investment in your country for the future of my children. If you are
intrested, and can maintain the very confidentiality of this transaction, you
e-mail me immediately for more clearification. The Angola government through
it's various agents has confisticated all my late husband known properties
since his death. You can find how and when my husband was killed in the BBC
news achives in the following news
story:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/1839252.stm
It was widely reported in the international news media

Thank you as I awaiting your urgent reply.

I just got this email, and I don't know what to think of it. It seems like a personal email, but he does mention a place to send stuff and it's got a million recipients. Is it just a good intentioned 'Hello from the troops'? Anyone else get this one?

-----------SNIP------------

EDIT: It turns out that the email was legitimate and personal, so I've removed it.

If I had to guess that would be a spammer too. At least if you don't know the guy. the odds of him mistakenly putting in youre email adress to send it to are pretty slim.

This scam has been around for ever.  It used to be disseminated via FAX before people had email (and maybe it still is)

"It should also be noted that scambaiters do NOT go actively seeking scammers of a certain skin colour. We only bait THIEVES who send us emails trying to steal from us or our friends. We do NOT target any particular type of person. Please remember that it is the scammer that contacts us, NOT the other way around."

I'm resurrecting this thread from the dead because you guys got me hooked on scam baiting now.

I have a lad on the line now, and I'm just reeling him in.  If you pretend to be a 21 year-old coed with a rich daddy, you can have some fun.

I always pretended to be a doctor.  It takes way too long though if you read some of the scams on that guys site they take a couple months to finish.

It all depends on how elaborate you want to get, but, yeah, I think part of the deal is that you try to keep the scammer running around in circles for as long as possible.  But it only takes a few minutes for me to send an e-mail, and I'm having fun thinking up ways to mess with his head.   :)

Yeah, I have a voice mail and fax number that got from a web site that 419eater recommended as well.  The scammer can call and leave either a fax or voice mail on it, and I can download them from the web site.
Title: Re: Strange email i keep getting
Post by: DrewKaree on February 28, 2005, 05:44:55 pm
I HAD a change-your-voice program, dunno if I can find it again...try to make sure your message is either mumbly or has so much background noise it's almost unintelligible.

E-mail him back that the tape on your machine must be going bad, and you weren't sure if he called or not because you couldn't make out the voice.  Change the message and tell him the next time he leaves a message that you must have only changed the MESSAGE tape, and not the recording, and you think it was him, but not sure.

Tell him also that you have other people wanting to front you the money if they can have a split.

There's one guy on 419eater.com that got the Holy Grail of trophies.  He pretended to be a priest of course...  Then he told the scammer that he had to convert to his religion.  This would require a ceremony.  It involves 3 items.

1.  A tub.
2.  A goat.
3.  Milk

Here's the result...
