Mad Catz has announced that their new Xbox lightgun, simply called 'Blaster', will be compatible with SEGA's House of the Dead 3, alaying fears that the game would launch without a compatible gun.
"As the leading designer of innovative accessories, Mad Catz has expanded its line of peripherals to include the first-to-market light gun for Xbox," cooed Darren Richardson, President and COO of Mad Catz, Inc. "The Mad Catz Blaster is the first gun for any console to incorporate a `Shotgun' firing mode, enabling players to fire five rounds at a time. We anticipate great success for Mad Catz' Blaster and SEGA's `The House of the Dead 3,' both of which use next generation technology." Quite.
The Mad Katz Blaster is out to coincide with the launch of House of the Dead 3 in January next year priced around

DUUUDE ! ! !
Can't wait ;D.
But how exactly is this hackable?

But how exactly is this hackable?
beats me.
I'm not expert, but aren't xbox controllers a glorified USB device? I know it has some extra voltage for the vibrations and stuff. I thought USB devices are inherently incredibly complex(i.e. they have a microprocessor *shudder*).
Gun looks pretty sweet, though.
-
NO :P
Ps2 controllers has USB connections(some) and wont ever work on a PC.
X-box controllers have their own connecter.
-
The PS2 Guncon2 is also USB. Of course someone would have to write the USB driver for it. I've herd of people who are working on a usb driver for the xbox joystick, so it sounds possible someone could do the same for the guncon2 (or Madcatz Xbox gun).
BTW: these guns work in both 15khz and 31.5khz modes.
-
SNAAAKE I think he means the XBOX controller is a USB device, with more voltage for vibration, he isnt talking about the PSX to USB converters
-
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT ? ? ?
I thought he meant if the x-box controllers conector were USB or not?
sorry I am confusing people left and right 8).
-
I meant that XBOX controllers/guns/wheels/whatever use USB technology, I don't know where the PS2 or PSX connector thing came from. Obviously the xbox connectors are proprietary technology, they aren't like a USB pc mouse or joystick in that regard.
-
Yeah you were right on that...however no idea on what Malenko was talkin about :P.
Hey ah..dave_k,
You said x-box guns work with 31 khz monitor right?dremcast guns also work right?
say...this one?

Just wondrin so I can order one(sick of playing gun games with pad) :(.
-
Never herd of that gun before snaaake. But if its Dreamcast compatible it should work in VGA mode. I'd think you can find cheaper ones at funcoland/gamestop though.
-
Well...it says it does work with dreamcast..gonna give it a try.

Getting back to the original post (madcatz gun for HOD3), I find it funny they are marketing this gun with the special feature of a "shotgun mode" which fires 5 bullets at once. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is something unique to HOD3 (software) alone and not the gun. I've worked with marketing people who think they are "technical"...its quite funny to see what they spew about their products.
<mod> actually Vampire Night for PS2 has an unlockable shotgun feature which fires 5 bullets at once also...using the normal guncon2</mod>
BTW: HOD3 (and the gun) is out already in stores (in the US). I hate to admit it, but this would play really sweet on by 36" VGA monitor at 480P. ;D The only problem is, is it worth $130 for the game plus two guns? It looks to be the best lightgun game out now (in arcades/consoles). Next in line would have to be Vampire Night, then HOD2.
-
really its out?WOW...didn't know...
$130 man !?...
Can't afford but I did get that dreamcast gun and works great...rumble and everything..even has a plug to use vmu.
-
HOD3 $130 = $50 for game, $80 for 2 lightguns. A demo version is coming out on the December Xbox mag dvd.
The last time I spent that much on a game was for Samba De Amigo (Dreamcast). I got 2 sets of original Sega Maracas. It cost a pretty penny, but was (and still is) totally worth it.
-
My friend's sister just bought an xbox last week - plus 2 guns and HOTD3 - cost a little over <insert your concept of a fortune here>. They beat the game that same weekend. Could not afford any other games.
Unless there's TREMENDOUS replay value I don't think I could take that road. How many shooting games are coming out/already out for xbox anyways? :P
I have like 7 games for my xbox - I couldn't picture just having one....
-
I got the HOD3 demo (came with my latest issue of xbox magazine). Its good, but I also though it wasn't THAT good. From what I hear they have absolutly no mini-games (so practically no replay value). But iwhen you finish the game it unlocks a playable HOD2 version (which I already have for the DC w/2 guns).
This is the only lightgun game for the xbox. So I'll just wait for the gun/game to go on the used rack after xmas. I'm more interested in Unreal Championship (which should be available on Friday! along with xbox live!).
