Yes, I am Taking my Dedicated Marvel Vs Capcom Cabinet and Creating something Truly Unique.
Im going to Finishing up my Collecting Componets and Art to complete a Dedicated Jedi Power Battles Arcade... I have a MGCD and it supports it on Timed play, I Just need a better copy of the game, some Nice Art, and a Custom Marquee and CP. (Also I need to wire 2-3 more buttons onto my Cabinet from my kick harness.)
If You have any Idea's for any part of the cabinet please Feel Free, Id Love to hear your oppinions...
(and how to post pictures on this type of forum?, so I can show you some basic's I came up with myself... ^.^)
-
Do you have a link to information about this game? I'm intrigued.
-
Uh, the game is based on a platformer for Playstation and Dreamcast, And I am very much hoping to get it 100% working on jamma... ^.^
Of course Ill be using the Dreamcast Version due to alot of fixes over the Playstation one...
-

3 words: Custom lightsaber joysticks!
Perhaps a light side / dark side for players 1 / 2...
I just watched ROTJ the other night and the Emperors throne room is the most visually excellent set of all the movies, IMO. Go look at that for some Star Wars inspired feel.
I've never played Power Battles either. I'll have pick up a copy.
Another SW game that would play quite well on an arcade cab is Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi. A very mediocre 3D Fighting game for the PS1. Would play nice with real arcade controls though.
-
Yeah, Teras Kasi Would be an awesome game to put in a cabinet... But I Wanna get away from Fighting games for now... All I have is fighting games for CPS2, So I want to make the Adventure Jedi Power Battles into what I think it shoulve become before... ^.^
Nice Idea on the Light Saber Joysticks... lol... ^.^ hard to think how it could be done thou... ^.^
BTW, Go try Jedi Power Battles... It is one of the Best Games Ever to come out of the prequels... ^.^
-
Nice Idea on the Light Saber Joysticks... lol... ^.^ hard to think how it could be done thou... ^.^
Toys-R-Us has some .45% lightsaber replicas for $35 that might work nicely, here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/toys/B00021HBMC//002-2863896-9535251). I don't think it would be too difficult to tool some kind of way to attach them to a standard joystick shaft. I don't know how big/long these are, that's the only real issue I could see doing this...other then it might feel weird to play with them.
Besides, you aren't a real Jedi until you Build You Own Arr..err...Lightsaber. :D
-
Well, I love the Idea, but I also have to worry about the Sensitivity of the joysticks, and as mine are soldered on... uh well... :-X :-\ Im sure you get the picture... >.< my first player joystick's life is just about up, For the micro switches i mean... ^.^
Also, The first few things im planning on getting acomplished first are the Control Pannel, Wiring, Marquee And possibly side art... i found a custom Marquee guy who sells personalized arcade art on ebay. But I will Definately have to Consider those Lightsabes as soon as I see one in person.... ^.^
-
First off is The control Pannel, here is The CP overlay and some basic measurements i drew up on paint. I want it to be exact size as the old one, except with the left/right Sides covered as well, (basicly triangles)
As for Art, All I came up with was a Darth Maul Saber under P/1, P/2 , a Star wars logo, and possibly some jedi pics near the players, (I will have to look at simular CP's)
As for phisical stuff, I think im going to go with the Black and red look, Black cab, New Red T Molding, more red buttons, and red joystick toppers for now.
i will post another pic with a basic outlook shortly... ^.^
Any thoughts, Ideas, concepts or even simple oppinions are Greatly appreciated!
-
These are two color concepts ofthe control pannel, NOTE: the Marquee is not the final version, I just made it up for a concept.
basicly its black on red or red on black.. ^.^
Tell me,what ya think?
I think I favor the black more... ^.^
-
God, I love Star Wars.....
And I love that you are dedicating a whole cabinet to it,
but Jedi PowerBattles? eewwwww....
Its kind of better than of previous StarWars games, but
....... :-X I'll just stop there and vote for the black cabinet w/red striping.
-
Does it have to have a sith theme to it?
My vote would be more along the lines of the ROTJ luke colors...black cabinet with bright green T-molding.
I do happen to like the square buttons though...I would consider either some white, black and blue buttons though as that is more in line than just red.
As for the joysticks, I'm wondering if someone could cast clear joystick handles for you. You could then use the superbright LEDs on them for the lightsaber effect.
Yes, I am a star wars geek. My website: http://www.poweroftheforce.com
:)
-
Um square buttons? ^.^ hehe, I just did those to measure distance from each set and joystick, I only need 6, per player, =X
as for why I chose the Red and Black, If You look at most Concept art for Episode I alot of its ads's and commercial art is dedicated to the Red and black. As Even the Cards on the First released Episode I figures.
I like the Idea of Clear Joystick Handles!! Lit up with maybe red and blue?(basic P1/P2 colors) or a variety of colors... but how could you wire a LED in a joystick without it ripping the cord when you play with it? Ill have to definately Look into that one! ^.^
(I have 3 LED's laying around that Flash In all Lightsaber colors! ^.^ red, blue, green, yellow, purple, ETC)
Whats so bad about Jedi Power Battles? I admit its not the best Star Wars Game ever invented, especialy for an arcade. But Its adventure type gameplay. like arcade. Supports 6 buttons per player, like Marvel Vs capcom. what else shouldve been?
Thanks for all your Ideas Guys, Great! Keep em commin... ^.^
-
I guess im going with the Black with re trim, and possibly the Clear Joysticks, if i could find some... if not then just red. (theres also that lightsaber hilt possiblity) ^.^
moving on....
As for the overlay im not sure what im going to do? And the Directional sickers for the joys and buttons, just is starting to confuse me.
Ive been admiring some of the other Classic Star wars CP's, but none intrigue me when it comes to an adventure type CP. I guess its because all those types of CP's were never built for a game of that particular game play.
anyone have any suggestions?
-

I agree, this game just really wasnt any good. It is your money and you are making it what you want, so...hats off to ya! ;)

Wasnt any Good? Are you sure youve played the Dreamcast Version? Or it period? Its a huge step comming from PSX. And If not Jedi Power Battles, What other game would even come close to Arcade?
Teras Kasi for PSX, thats about it... -.-?
(I dont see myself playing any more Fighters for awhile)
I never found anything un-enjoyable about SWJPB, even the under rated PSX version. Its a solid 2-Player Adventure that Has an arcade feel to it... (atleast for me)
-
And here's a review I found:
http://www.gamespot.com/dreamcast/adventure/starwarsepisode1jpb/index.html?q=Jedi+Power+Battles+
5.8 out of 10!

Pssst: Episode I Racer. ;D
I've actually been dabbling with a custom controller for it similar to the controls in the arcade version, when I haven't been designing my own Clone Wars-themed cab.

Corporate Dog

IGN's has a 6.8, Anyway, you cant judge a game on rating... The point is, It is an Extremely Fun Game! Especialy If you Have Freinds to play it with!... It even tags some RPG elements and lvling up... I Love this game, and I encourage others to try it, thats all im asking.
plus I havent played it in so long, My Game Isnt in the best of shape and i had to buy another one off Ebay to Finish my equipment list
-
I like the idea of using Star Wars logos for the joystick bezels, tho in this case maybe the game predates them. Not sure.
-
Orta,
Please dont get us wrong.... stellar and I
both luv what you are doing (I hope I speak for both of us)
And yes I personally own both the PSX and DREAMCAST versions
of the game. I couldnt play it on PSX cause the graphics
were just so crappy, so I made my way thru it on DC.
Cant say it is a SW game that I would revisit.
Especially with the quality games that are out now.
SW:Battlefront, SW:Battlefront, SW:Battlefront
(Did I mention SW:Battlefront?)
Just about all of the Episode I games were duds.
'Episode I', 'Racer', 'Jedi Power Battles', 'Obi Wan' etc...
I guess if I were to make a dedicated cabinet with a game
from that 'era', I would probably make it
SW:Demolition - Not a game really based on one movie,
but a fun, action game with lots of vehicles, single or two player
action, decent graphics and lots of things blowing up..
(Which would be more fun to watch on the screen than
two jedi running around slashing at differing levels of battle droids for just about the whole game) The game is VERY repetative in this way. The bosses are pretty lame as well, since they don't correspond with the movies at all - except for Darth Maul.
A good arcade machine is one where a game will last the players
maybe anywhere from 5 minutes to like 15 for a entire game.
This is how replayability comes into play. Get a good game that doesnt last too long, and you will want to go back and play over and over.
Or... what I would really love, if you could find a solution for the
Keyboard-Mouse combination would be to play BATTLEFRONT
on an arcade machine with a large monitor.
People would be in AWE. I know I would.
I really would love to see your completed project.
A completed machinie that would have your decor and
any star wars game is definately worth seeing.
Its just that I personally would not put faith in others
enjoying that game too much (from a repetition/replayability standpoint)
Just my 2 cents. If you love the game that much, go for it!
You have my support 100%!!!!!
Your pre-rendered pics look awesome.
-
You have your oppinion, especialy when it comes to star wars Demolition, ^.^ I wouldnt know anything about Battlefront for PC, I personaly prefer tp play it on Xbox live.^.^....I believe some of the best games came out of the First movie thou, for episode II all we got was Clone Wars, Bounty Hunter and a lame gameboy game.
I also Enjoyed Episode one racer and TPM RPG game was cool, I normaly dont favor Any of the Prequels what so ever, but what intriques me is the Type of Gameplay that Is featured in JPB. No other 2/player Star Wars game acomplishes this as a Adventure Type Game that can easily pass for arcade. ^.^
remember it follows the Movie Loosely,
And thank you , ^.^
Anyway, I want to get back to the Control Panel. I Have no Idea what Is going to happen with it... I need a Spark to come up with something...
-
Ok, ok, ok.
I HAD to chime in.
Does anyone remember Double Dragon? It was repetitive as hell, had massive slow down problems, and had massive bugs.
Repetitive games?
Simpsons Arcade - Check
TMNT - Check
XMen - Check
I think this idea is awesome! JPB is almost a Star Wars omage to arcade games. Heck, it is the arcade game that never was. I loved Jedi Power Battles. I instantly thought, "Wow, I'm playing my favorite arcade games, (see above) except with Jedis!!!!"
Good luck, looking forward to the final thing.
-
Thank you, ^.^ I hope to get some Real Work done soon, as I near closer to Starting The DC hacking/re-wiring. Just need a few more supplies.. ^.^
-
If you are going to have a Dreamcast in there....
Maybe a more 'general' Star Wars maquee
and the ability to switch between different SW games?
just a thought....
-
Im actualy planning to Switch with many games... not necceseraly SW, And I even got a message from some guy saying that having a dreamcast marquee would also suffice. I was thinking that the neo geo type hole could be used in the same way for Dreamcast except w/Manuals!
-
I always thought that JPB was a pretty lame game to play by myself, but playing it with another Star Wars freak was as fun as playing any other game on DC. I don't think you can go wrong with a Star Wars themed cab (as long as you don't have Jar-Jar side art).
-
Here are a few scans I found.
Maybe someone can photoshop them into something really cool:

Yeah, Jar Jar is not a option, This cabinet will be dedicated to the Jedi.... ^.^
Anyway, thank you for those Pics "IntruderAlert", been looking for ones like that size forever... ^.<
as for the Hilts, I may be able to afford something of this type... since Im selling off my Marvel Vs Series on CPS2(all Suicide free).. but if anyone knows how they can be used for a joystick please give me a shout... cause It seems the only option would be to slide in ontop of the topper itself?
-
Yeah, Jar Jar is not a option, This cabinet will be dedicated to the Jedi.... ^.^
But if Jar Jar decides he's sick of getting no respect and goes over to the Dark Side...

My vote is to save your dedicated marvel vs. Capcom cabinet and build a scratch cab for this project, I just dont like when people use dedicated machines on their projects, its this weird thing i have....
-
Build one from scratch? ...
-
From what I can tell, JPB needs the analog controls. The D-PAD only allows you walk not run.
-
yeah, most of the games I will be using on it are more than likely Analog...
or can be set to analog... that is why im looking for hacks for analog... no luck yet, so if anyone can find some it would be greatly appreciated...
,TJB
-
For the record my Current cabinet isnt really dedicated anymore, mostly due to Extensive use... and too repetitive in Gameplay types... The CP plexi is Torn in places... and the Coin mechs arent functioning properly... not to mention that the Mechs are made out of slots of cardboard w/Tape, Trigger hair and pens to guide slots... lol. No one ever gets money back...
;D
-
Hmm.. all the reviews I can find state that JPB kinda sucks. You sure you want to dedicate this game?
-
I voted for Jedi Power Battles because I get the impression that's what you really want to do.;D But to be honest I've never actually played the game.
I think a dedicated Sega cab would be a very good idea though. Most of the good recent arcade games have run on Sega Naomi cabs which are based on Dreamcast hardware.
-
Hmm.. all the reviews I can find state that JPB kinda sucks.
-
A dedicated game comes from the factory when built, you cant make a dedication on your own, to any game you want, in my opinion anyway , you can resuit another cab and make it seem like it was dedicated, whitch is fine if that cab is not savable, but you doing well keep up the good work (all these terms dedicated and such ) :P
-
heres a pic of Sonic running (literally both in this case) ;D on the amazing converted machine... ^.^
(edit)
I will posting my Prototype Dreamcast Joystick later on today.. that way I can test the wires before adding solder onto the real thing... ^.^
-
Sorry for not posting in awhile... (dumb Idea)my Port fried while testing the Joystick i made... >.< ...so i scrapped it... I made another one, (carefree) out of cardboard this time, last night... ^.^ looks pretty b*tching for a piece of cardboard..... Ill post it when I get off of school...
as for the art on the cabinet is going to be really delayed but im considering making a new CP out of wood (cause its more flexible when it comes to art, and cutting) as some can see by my pics its a dynamo cabinet w/flip down Controls(metal). and i doubt ill be able to cut through 1/4 of an 1inch" of metal with a saw... anyway still thinking about it...
-
Okay, Ive decided to Buy a used cabinet and keep my old one... until I find a old... Im going to lock this thread... and start a new once I know exactly what im doing... this concept has been stopted for the time being. ;D
