Title: Betson, ARCADEVGA and ActLabs Lightgun question
Post by: jsansoterra on February 08, 2005, 04:30:32 pm
I have a Betson monitor and ARCADE VGA video card.

I want to get a few lightguns to use with MAME.

I notice that ACTLABS no long makes the PC USB light gun.

There is, however, a TV USB Lightgun still available.

Will the TV USB Lightgun work with my setup?

Thanks!

Short answer.

NO.

Long answer,
The tv lightguns only work with svideo, your monitor only supports pure rgb.

okay thanks!

I thought they might plug into the SVIDEO outout of the ARCADEVGA and get a 'copy' of the signal from there.

Thanks again!

Alas no,  the way actlabs guns work means they need access to the signal that actually ends up on the screen, not just a copy.... This is because they alter the signal when you pull the trigger (they turn the whole screen completely white momentarily).

There's a company who have recently released a lightgun for the xbox/ps2 and are thinking about releasing it for the PC - someone from the company posted here on a thread asking about mame. E-real games or something. Anyway, if they make a pc version, I imagine it would work with your setup as it uses a camera you setup at the top of your monitor. No white flashes either....
