Hello everyone: I was wondering if any one could help me with
info on how to or if you can hook a 400 disk CD changer up to
a PC with win-xp and actually have a letter drive number in my control panel to access the changer thru any program you are running at that particular time, Like a jukebox software. This would be cool if you did not want to use mp3's but just load your favorite Cd's into the changer. Thanks for any help you can give me in this question.

Got a model number for the player in question?

Hi,
I'm looking at the cdp-cx450 model . It doe's not have to be this one. I am willing to purchase another model if I have to. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mark.

There's a program made by Wintrax that will control cd multichangers with your PC.
At the moment though it won't run onXp and it's not a free program.
See link for more details

It's not going to happen.
I know it sounds like a cool idea, but unless you find an electrical engineer with more time than... uh... I'm not feeling very whitty this morning...
Anyhow, Mostlikely, you will not find some one willing to dedicate the amount of time required to acomplish such a task.

It really looks like sony/kenwood/someone would stick a usb/firewire interface on one of their changers. They could charge a few hunderd dollars more for the ability to use it as a massive jukebox for your pc, even if you ignored the usefullness to the HTPC/Jukebox crowd. Kenwood does have serial controlled ones. http://www.e-repair.co.uk/story25.htm ;-/

I know it's not exactly what you are looking for, but I assume these things are remote controlled right? You could always pick up an Infrared blaster for your pc, and setup a program called "girder" to control the changer.
With some work, I'm sure you could get a fairly integrated-looking solution.

Seems like someone could come up with something. there has to be a way to do this. Girder will not support a changer according to their support team. It was worth a try.thanks. Someone somewhere sometime will figure this one out.

You would probably have to control it on its own, the only thing you could do would be to play the music into the computer via line-out/line-in. Other than that, you need to take apart the whole thing and rebuild one (which would cost you ALOT)

I finally got thru to Sony japan, They said they would investigate the idea of adding a usb or firewire to there models of mega changers. they thanked me for the idea..So you never know they may come out with what i'm looking for.

It's amazing a company that size hadn't thought about that before.

I know its like a light bulb went off in someones head. ???
They asked if I had a problem with the company pursuing the Idea without me putting a patent on it first, So they did a voice recording of me saying I had no problem and they had total control over the idea and the rights to it. All I care is someone comes up with a viable solution to this problem.

Wish you had suggested 802.11b/g or ethernet as well. Either of them would be more handy for me than usb/firewire, but I'd take up one with any computer interface.
